And yea, first gen i7s really are outdated. As in, if you buy a new one nowadays you wouldn't buy 2008 tech people would buy in 2009, and maybe as a budget choice in 2010. In this particular case it's not about .2 GHZ more but about several generations of intel core tech. The step between the 2008-2010 Nehalem and the 2011 Sandy bridge architecture is a large one, much bigger than Ivy bridge vs Sandy bridge is now.

Btw, maschine runs basically the same on my old core to duo 2.66ghz as it does on my i7 860. GZ STILL after all the years seems to be king.

The majority of laptops on the market have i3's and i5's that I believe are much less powerful for this application than a first gen i7 is.

I feel like tech has stood still for the last 2 years. It's like computing power may be "technically" better from a benchmark standpoint but for our needs, it's basically as good as it gets.

Things still generate heat (and need cooling) things still take enormous power (batteries on lappys I mean) and not every host can be as efficient as reaper

So, Diva........in reaper on an a desktop i7+ she might be ok, but other than that......

Of all synths mentioned (analoge synth mulating or sounding), which one do you find is best for drums?
Can the emulation affect the result? I find it very easy to make great kicks in Tal's UNO-LX. But there's only one envelope ... so you either have the kick to be cut off at the end (audible snap!) or die out without any rumble. I've layered two in mux which gives you a lot of extra control which is nice (but i like to think i shouldn't have to!).
In diva i find the jupiter6 filter to do the job the best, but i can't get the kicks to sound as good as with UNO-LX.
Human error..? Possible
I know it's said that the SH-101 was used extensively for kicks in early trance (not all was 909). Anyone know what modules to pick in order to be as authentic to the 101 spec as possible?

Diva osc's are free running... so each kick will sound different and depending on where the phase is at when the note is triggered may be stronger or weaker sounding...

I sample Diva in Geist if I want a more consistent percussive sound... or use another synth.
