I've seen the youtube videos, and what T-CM11 made on this page.
So, is this a $20 bleep maker?

just tried wavegenerator with midi - iPad2, iOS 5.11, Yamaha xm1midi io
ppg settings : polyphony 4 notes, quality max
that does not work. some notes play fine -maybe up to 8 and then it is over. when I change the preset the same happens - a few notes play and the no more sound -not even from on screen keyboard - and so on
is this a known issue?

It can do much much more than bleeps (should be pretty obvious from some videos and soundclouds). But it is a synth, if you're expecting realistic bass/guitar/drums, you should look elsewhere.BMoore wrote:I've seen the youtube videos, and what T-CM11 made on this page.

And what my stuff concerns, I make nightmare bleeps from anything

I'm on the fence on this one. $20 is a bit steep for me and the demos I see and hear just do not convince me that this is worth it. I have paid much less for ipad synths that seems to do much more.

It's totally worth it, Mike. This is the synth that made me saving up for an iPad, goddamit.

I bought it even before I knew it would have AudioCopy (which is essential for my workflow, sad to say), and within minutes I was finding inspiriation with this synth. Just flipping around and noodling through the presets I came up with two rough song ideas which I wanted to capture so badly, that I rigged up a digital out from my USB interface into my firewire interface so I could record them. When this supports AudioCopy, it's going to be something I use all the time.
Just one heads-up on the new update, though (this is from the Wolfgang Palm support page):
IMPORTANT INFO FOR THOSE UPDATING TO THE UPCOMING 1.0.1 UPDATE
The new update will include a new sound bank, here's what to do to make sure you don't lose any of your sound.
■if you want to load the new updated bank, you have to do the "Reset Presets" function on the browser page.
■if you want to save the old factories, you have to "Save Bank As" inside the bank manager.

Can anyone point me to a audio/video demo of this synth that really shows off what it can do? I have not found one yet on youtube, their site, etc that gave me that WOW, I have to have this factor.
I want to buy it. I'm all about new synths and new sounds, but it just seems like I already have software that can do this and more. What am I missing?

Those sound good, but I am fairly certain I can use one of the many synths available on iPad to re-create those sounds. That's my point.
Perhaps the problem is that I have too much or just enough. I am sure this is a FANTASTIC product - it sounds it. It may even do away with three or four of my apps just in its one AND it's creator is a world-famous synthesist and hardware designer, so you cannot get a much better pedigree than that.
However, between Magellan, Grain Science, Arctic Keys, Alchemy, Sylo Synth, Animoog, Xenon, Addictive Synth, Sunrizer, ims-20, Synthtronica, Morphwiz, Samplewiz, csGrain and others that I purchased, I can re-create those demos pretty much perfectly (given the right tool).
OK, I have answered my own question. $20 seems like a lot, but I spent much more than that on the above list (and that does not even scratch the scratch on the number of music making apps I have purchased for the iPad and Android tablets), so it IS worth it if you do not own so many iPad synths, but it's not worth it if you do, unless you just have to have EVERY great synth on the iPad (I am infected with that disease, but with money so tight, my wife will cut something off of me if I spend it).
Thanks for the help.
I now see that I need to attend app buyers anonymous.
Funny thing is, with all this app spending, I have not used any of this to create one song yet. Time to re-evaluate my musical life.

---I've bought just about every synth app thats come out and use very few of them. I bought the PPG and was very excited at the prospects of this synth bringing capabilities I haven't seen or heard with the other apps, it might possess them but the presets didn't show this. I also experieced a constant crash when using my Griffin Studio Connect, no other apps have this problem. The PPG peopl etold me to contact Griffin to get the "midi spec" which didn't make sense to me but I contacted them and they weren't sure what they meant either. Right now the PPG can't be used...

Somewhat off topic...
*raises hand*
I too am an appaholic. I have many more music apps than I need or use regularly. This evening was yet another reason why. I had several ideas going on and thought I captured them in an app that I would send to another sequencing app. Long story short it took way too long to get the first idea captured correctly and by then it was too late to get the others placed.
IMO, until developers have a simple cohesive method of sharing between apps, I look at it as only an interesting but frustrating hobby. Yes, some apps do this better than others and I have been successful on occasion as I am sure others have as well.
Getting ACP, background audio, Core MIDI, etc. between apps is not as straight forward as it should be (not counting external MIDI via hardware or WIFI). Here's to hoping that soon all of these things will improve.
Back on topic...
I bought PPG Wavegenerator and actually love the sounds and methods that can achieve useful sounds. I look forward to future updates that may help this app get along better with Apple's shortcomings.
BTW, Mr. Palm's history on his website was a very interesting read.
Thanks for the port to iOS.

well, no one can answer you question. it is a personal thing.Karmacomposer wrote:Those sound good, but I am fairly certain I can use one of the many synths available on iPad to re-create those sounds. That's my point.

for me, I would classify my iPad synth like that:
great: Xsynth, WaveGenerator, Sunrizer, Animoog, iVoxel, Addictive,
good:Cassini, Magellan, NLog Pro, Seline Ultimate, BassLine
ok: iSyn, iMS20, SynthTronica
not ok: Arctic keys, eps, synthstation
Alchemy is sounding great, but it seems mostly useful as preset player or in combination with the VSTi
so, WaveGenerator is not that cheap, but worth it IMHO
they just have to sort out the midi problem i am experiencing .... and maybe add Midi out ....
Best

I have had to agree with Karmacomposer. I hadn't heard anything that really wow'ed me. The stuff I'm hearing here is pretty good though! Question is, is this default patches that I'm hearing, or custom patches, and if so, how can we all get them? We need a place to share patches for this app!T-CM11 wrote:But how are we to know what wows you?Karmacomposer wrote:Can anyone point me to a audio/video demo of this synth that really shows off what it can do? I've been an app-aholic lately, and my wife has just cut my funding off!
Fair enough, because I have most of the available software and lack only a few that I REALLY want. (Animoog, Addictive, PPG WaveGenerator, etc.)
