This has been my method with NI as well. With Cubase I stay current. With other vendors it's just hit&miss with how I upgrade. I've given up on IK and the stupid buying credits bullshit.ksandvik wrote:I've purchased the 50% discount upgrades before next Komplete is released for four years now and it works out really well.

I miss Komplete Care.... That was a yearly subscription for all updates as they came out....

I always stay at least one year behind with Komplete. I'm still at Komplete 7 (I don't have the cash to spend on K8U at the moment)... I may upgrade to Komplete 9 Ultimate next year when they do their 50% off sale but I would never upgrade Komplete when the new version is released.

I have been on the every other year plan. I get to July and can't seem to decide whether to get on the 50% sale or wait to get the new version.ksandvik wrote:I've purchased the 50% discount upgrades before next Komplete is released for four years now and it works out really well.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

This is my plan as well - I always wait until the last days of July - but I skip a year and have stayed with the "even" Komplete's only (2,4,6 and nowksandvik wrote:I've purchased the 50% discount upgrades before next Komplete is released for four years now and it works out really well.
For the 110.00 bucks I just paid for v8 - I can't recall seeing a better deal on anything as long as I have been using VSTi's. All the stuff in there will easily keep me busy until v10 is 50% off in a few years...

Perhaps you don't remember the complete clusterf*k that turned into when the Komplete Care subscribers got all the upgrades, except for the new Guitar Rig which was deemed only to be part of Komplete 3.
Had we all just purchased the Komplete 3 upgrade when it came out, we would have been much better off. Instead, we had to sit on the sidelines for a year until Komplete 4 came along. Fortunately, IIRC, NI came to their senses and offered Komplete Care customers a nice upgrade deal to K4, but boy, the forums were lit up like Xmas trees there for awhile.

I remember that. Didn't we get Massive for free or something because of that whole mess?BERFAB wrote:I don't.SLiC wrote:I miss Komplete Care.... That was a yearly subscription for all updates as they came out....

I believe so.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I remember that. Didn't we get Massive for free or something because of that whole mess?
I bought the original Komplete deal, which turned up in a huge box with every product in its own original box with a sticker on which read something like "bundle deal". I think I've bought Komplete 2, then possibly Komplete Care, Komplete 4, and then most recently Komplete 7. You can almost certainly afford to skip a release or two, and as already pointed out, wait until June/July when traditionally NI have discounted the current release in advance of the next version.

Sweet! It's so goofy to use Guitar Rig to host a compressor.hibidy wrote:AH HA! If you look at those new fx, then it says KOMPLETE FX so something may be happening after all.

Hah! On page 2 of this very thread (June 15), I said:
"Guitar Rig will be renamed something like Studio Rack, and the number of effects will be reduced while upgrading the audio quality and capabilities. New multitrack glitch component with midi learn, arpeggiator and sequencer. A horizontal mixer view will show all the levels (ins and outs) simultaneously and allow drag and drop reordering of components. A super metering bridge component will be added that will display freq curves, waveforms, spatial arrays, etc., and which can be dropped at any location in the chain."
Of course, it's likely mostly wrong
but at least I get credit for saying how stupid the "guitar rig" name of that software is getting ... looks like they actually heard the users (like us) saying they wished the higher-quality effects they recently added in there were native vsts...
On the other hand, most of those older effects in there can just disappear imo ... and I think they will.
