In which case I agreehimalaya wrote: Perhaps I need to clarify a bit...I also wouldn't choose the A7 if I was only producing D&B. I'd want bigger monitors, or perhaps a sub to go with the A7. However, at the same time I found that the A7s reproduced the reference D&B and Dub tracks perfectly. The bass is very controlled and never overpowering, a characteristic I like a lot. I found that the Adam A7 reveal bad commercial mixes very quickly.
What Monitors to buy for a beginner?

Beatport is a niche within a niche. If you're good and get signed with a small label you'll be lucky to sell 20 copies per track on there. I really wish people would lose the fascination with that hideous portal.cyphersuit wrote:
i don't know, never usef beatport myself. just happen to know that many newcomers will aim for success on beatport first.

At our label we started to offer WAV files at less cost than the mp3 sold on beatport. This choice is both for us and for the buyer.
Between beatport fees, aggregators/promoters fees, using that shitty portal is useless considering that every day are released about 1000 tracks.
You can argue that with beatport you can have more audience, but as already said, with 1000 tracks per day released, you need a team of explorers to find your preferred tracks.
It's not eco-friendly, but hell, i miss all the vinyl era.
So, or you invest seriously in something different to promote your label and events, otherwise, dreaming to gain popularity just beacuse your tracks are in beatport it's out of the world.
Ops, sorry, back on topic.
Yep, i confirm this on my A7's and i like this characteristic too. That's why i adviced a sub7/sub8 as companion if more bass response is needed.himalaya wrote: The bass is very controlled and never overpowering, a characteristic I like a lot.
On the other hand is right also that firstly an optimized room is necessary, you can buy the best monitors, but placed in a room that's not treated, are useless.

As a punter I've never been big on it, always found it slow and expensive compared with my stores of choice. From all the feedback I've ever had from label owners (admitedly I've not discussed it with anyone in a year or two) that sell through it, its still the biggest dance portal going once you remove the majors from the picture. Quite a few people I know will place exclusives on there because their previous releases tend to sell as many through there as all the other outlets put together. This of course forces the likes of you and me back there to purchase the exclusives!tehlord wrote: Beatport is a niche within a niche. I've been calling around see what's out there and I've narrowed it down to the Adam A5X or the QUESTED S6R.
Is the ribbon tweeter in the A5X's effective for long h's of working as far as hearing fatigue goes?
What do you guys know about the QUESTED S6R? decent monitors?
Cheers guys.

Also I don't want to give the impression that more $$$ = Better. I was trying to say that generally the higher you go in quality the more they cost, but you reach a point of diminishing returns.
Here is a thread about the the Yamaha HS50m, they're cheap, it's very positive.
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much- ... -40-a.html
And reviews:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/reviews/ ... -hs50.html
It seems people are really impressed with these.
I also just want to add, I was thinking about the times when I demoed the Adams. I think it was the A7s and the A5.
My personal opinion, I liked them at first, then as I compared them to some of the others (dynaudio bm6a, PMC and Genelecs) I didn't like them as much. I was comparing a song which I knew well and on the Adams I couldn't tell where the people were or what was going on.
This was a long time ago though.
These I do remember auditioning.
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/reviews/ ... -bm6a.html
I thought they were excellent. Really loved these. The review reflects what I remember of them too, including the weaknesses.
Too big for your room though.
I found that the most consistent sound going through the models was Genelec. In other words their smaller ones sounded very much the same as the large ones, only smaller with less bass. At the time I thought the smaller genelecs were the best compromise.
But now if I was to audition them all again I don't know...

I haven't used them but 5.5" drivers are a good size for a room that small. You might even be able to go with the 4.5" A3X's.Nathn wrote:would the Adam A5X'S be good enough in a 3mx3m room?

If you like a laid back sound, try B&W's. They're not even remotely fatiguing.Aiynzahev wrote:Back then I liked laid back sound, liked the PMC's, and I think the Yamahas were a bit more forward. I remember they sold well though.

They are pretty expensive aren't they? I did listen to the smaller pair once, yellow cones right? Sounded good.Uncle E wrote:If you like a laid back sound, try B&W's. Don't know how useful for mixing though.

I love them but I do need to reference against my PMC's and Tekton's before turning anything in.

They are a real good price. Are they comparable to a reference monitor?Uncle E wrote:Here are the ones I use:Aiynzahev wrote:They are pretty expensive aren't they? I did listen to the smaller pair once, yellow cones right? Sounded good.

We're taking this way OT so I've moved my reply to the following thread:Aiynzahev wrote:Are they comparable to a reference monitor?

OP, just get some ADAM's or Dynaudio's. Anything from them that's in your price range will be a perfect fit.
