After searching on google, kvraudio etc im unable to find a clear explaination of what the term 'original mix' actually means but i think i have some ideas. Is it your finished track after the mastering process or does it mean something else ? This might probably be a given for most people out there, but im a little confused.

When i look at beatport i see many tracks which is labeled as an original mix and some arent, what the difference? And that leads me to also wonder what a radio edit is, i guess thats a mix optimised for the radio? Ive read mixing magazines and taken mixng courses but never been told what an 'original mix' and a 'radio edit' is.. and if an original mix is something else than the track you end of with after the final master, what do you then call your track after the final master process?

Sorry about asking such rookie questions but i'd rather ask stupid questions instead of not knowing and making mistakes about what the terms mean.

Wouldn't it mean a track that is prior to a remix?

Prior to a remix? You mean, its the original released track after the final mastering stage? And to be able to tell what is a remix and what is the original you call it the 'original mix' ?

original mix is the mix from the original artist.

for example: "white lion - beefstar (original mix)" is the 1st release from the original artist, while white lion - beefstar (gonzo's mix) is u guess it a remix from gonzo. :)

radio-edit is the track shorten to maximal 3,5 min. in length. usually dont have an intro and outro therefor its useless for dj's but perfect for the radio.

I think on Beatport, "original mix" is the default for a piece that isn't a remix. Usually, that excess "original mix" blurb is designated by the artist, assuming that someone somewhere will remix their work. That being said, it can come off as alittle pretentious.
