I'm wondering if there is a book out there that gives practical synth programming examples like "if you want a flute sound, you might try such and such cutoff and 30% resonance on a typical subtractive synth with this osc shape and this envelope setting..."

That sort of thing. I'm kinda interested in just looking through typical charts and whatnot.

Sounds like you need Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook. I can't vouch for the third edition (I've not read it yet) but I found the first two editions very good indeed.

Failing that, there is always the classic Sound on Sound synth secret articles. All available free on the Sound on Sound website, and including charts for many (mainly hardware analogue) synths, it's a series well worth a read. Like most Sound on Sound articles, in fact.
Architect, the modular MIDI toolkit, beta now available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

You might try the Howard Scarr Virus tutorials. Google it for free pdf. I found it very helpful for all synthesizers.

+1 For the Synthesizer Cookbook

+100 for the SOS articles

There's also one called How To Make A Noise which has a free version as well as a paid version

Yeah, the Cookbook is exactly what I am looking for. Shame there isn't an ebook version because I want it now!

How about old school analog synth manuals available in PDF? Any really good patch charts before the days of saving presets?
