For $199 I think a lot of people would be happy campers. But something tells me that $199 won't be the upgrade price point for KU9. Too many big ticket items are in the mix. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't count on that.
i own Komplete Ultimate 8 already... what else could NI add to the Komplete Ultimate 8 package except for The Giant, Damage, some of the Maschine Libraries (not all but some), and the new tube effects?

anything less would not be worth $199 update price!!!
I also have KU8. New in the NI lineup are Giant, Damage, Evolve, and the new Premium Tube series. Along with some Maschine paks, that would be quite a value. Perhaps you're correct. We'll see. :hihi:

Doc Brown wrote:Hey fellas. I bought complete 8 about a year ago and have to say I am really happy with it. I have many instances in several projects but have a question. If I upgrade to lets say komplete 9 or 10 even and I open my old projects that are using kontakt 5 and lets say versions 9 or 10 have kontakt "6" or so will kontakt "6" be reverse compatible or will I have to keep all past versions of kontakt on my machine?
...no, you would get a missing plug-in message. NI's plug-ins aren't backwards compatible - so it would be the same with Absynth, Battery, GR, FM8 etc. Best would be to save all the presets & multis you've created in your project folders...
Thanks loachm.

And know that unlike K4 and prior, now Kontakt encrypts their libraries so you can't save your presets as monoliths that include the samples. I know why they did it, but man, it makes protecting yourself against version upgrade woes harder!

Are you serious? So how much drive space do they think everyone has? Luckily I just built a new machine with a lot of space but still that seems crazy.

I thought it was just the switch from Kontakt 4 to 5 that wasn't backward compatible due to the format change? I had assumed future upgrades wouldn't have this problem.

I want to buy Komplete 8 right now but with the ongoing promotion and the release of new machine on 1-st October , it looks like there will be a better deal than the 3 extra products that you get for free now ( Razor.SS.Mouth) .

Maybe on 1st October there will released Komplete 9? Or maybe they will do some good deal like was with the machine cross-grade last month ?

Just don't want miss the current deal if nothing new come next month =/

Buy now or wait ?

i do not think all the new products will be included in the K8U update... that is why i did not include Evolve and stated "some" of the Maschine libraries... i was hoping that the new Premium Tube series will be in the package before Evolve... i own omnisphere... but like you said... we will see!!! :hihi:

hopefully... Oct 1 will be the date... day after the current komplete sale is over... :D

Post

There is also the new machine on Oct1 so maybe they will offer something interesting like the cross grade that was last month :)

Why wouldn't Evolve be in an update of KU8? The 'Mutations' products are already in there and Evolve is their upgrade. Maschine is a different product, and its packs might understandably be left out--though I'm sure some will be thrown in as a nice perk as has been done in the past.

But the whole point of Komplete Ultimate was to get everything in there (the way Komplete USED to be). If they start excluding things from Ultimate, where does that leave you?

Aren't Evolve and Damage non NI products? They're Heavyocity products or something. I assumed that's why KU8 users only got the lite "mutations" versions of Evolve.

Again - I'm looking to be educated, not saying I'm right...

As kind of an outsider to this, I'm just curious...if no one knows if there will be any new instruments or any new sound content to Komplete 9, why are there so many people anxious to buy it?

I'm not trolling, just genuinely perplexed -- on the surface it seems like people are just intrigued by the promise of having the newest shiny toy, but I'm wondering if there's a real reason that I'm not seeing from my reference point (which is as a keys player in a classic rock cover band).

NI is one of the largest developers of its type. Their products have very wide appeal for a reason: They are generally quality goods, they are useful, and they are priced competitively.

Many of their products, such as Kontakt and Reason, are industry leaders, and have, in fact, spawned entire cottage industries for 3rd party producers of sample sets and patches.

Every fall, NI puts out a road map of sorts that signals to everyone else in the industry what they feel will be industry trends: I.e., what new products they'll be supporting and updating, what products will be retired, and what new innovative things they've come up with for the rest of us to try out.

The Komplete packages are a way to get ALL OF IT at a very reasonable price. Those of us that have owned Komplete for years get VERY competitive upgrade pricing for a very nice basketful of new toys.

But there needs to be new content to keep long time Komplete owners interested. So upgrades to various products are usually introduced at about this time as well. And speculation about what other items in the current catalog will be included is rampant because, while many of us might have wanted to buy these things when they were first introduced, they may not have actually been compelling enough to actually lay out the cash. But as part of the Komplete bundle, we get to try them out in our studios for very little sacrifice.

Hence, this thread.
