I think I may just let the current version reside as-is right now so that I can generate the required revenue to pay for the new version. Still undecided, but I might just do this instead of offering any kind of introductory offer for the next version, since just about everyone will get a free upgrade to the new version anyways. I was attempting to get a loan for the rest of the V2 production, but it might just be better to do it this way. Dunno. Opinions are more than welcomed, cos I'm kinda at a crossroads right now where I can pay for a majority of it, but I really want to include a lot of refinements and new features. Lemme know what you all think I should do, I just want to do the right thing for current users, as well as new users.

You could also do some kind of combination of both: buy in the forthcomming months MixControl Pro (v1) for $?? and get v2 for free, when it will be released.
And let current v1 users pay a small upgrade price, which is a smaller then when buying v1 (and get a free upgrade), like in the previous idea right above.
I think current as well as new users will be happy then

Not a bad idea, but I do want to make sure that all who have already purchased get V2 for free. I won't go back on my word about that no matter what.Nielzie wrote:You could also do some kind of combination of both: buy in the forthcomming months MixControl Pro (v1) for $?? and get v2 for free, when it will be released.

I think you should keep selling it, and thus be able to pay up front for development. Hell, I think you should keep selling it through development of V2. Purchasers of V1, maybe they get to be beta testers for V2 if they want to, later on in the development cycle. Help have a stronger base of testing for the launch product this go-around.
And I still think you ought to at the very least do a "name your price" thing for owners of V1 rather than just giving it away. That way, people who do appreciate the software and find it useful can decide if paying for the upgrade is worth it. Surely letting your existing customer base give you money if they explicitly want to isn't going back on your word there.

In that case only the first would apply then (buy v1 get v2 free).rlahalla wrote:Not a bad idea, but I do want to make sure that all who have already purchased get V2 for free. As a current user I've already donated for v2, so I'm fine
I hope you won't get into financial troubles by being too kind

Whether I do or don't have any financial issues, it's ok. I would rather not go back on what I've already stated, and I know there are a lot of other ways to work it so that the project gets completed without having toNielzie wrote:I hope you won't get into financial troubles by being too kind

Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread. What's wrong with MCP V1? I understand that you can't get future development, but are there known problems at this point with particular platforms/OS/hosts?
I bought in during the original MC offering for $39. I kind of wish I'd got all the free extra stuff that was given away with it in at least one subsequent promotion, but all in all, I'm okay with it.
Actually, I was okay with MC, so I'm more than okay with MCP. It just seemed premature to pull it from the market if it's still viable in most cases. I suppose known issues could be handled with a disclaimer.

Well, there really aren't any _big_ issues, but there are a few issues with graphics displaying on a few lesser used hosts, but the main issue I have is that I need to be able to fix these issues instead of constantly handing out refunds to those who have an issue that arises and can't get it to work properly. Even though we have a demo version of it, sometimes people end up rebuilding a system or getting a new one, and when MCP doesn't work properly, I feel bad and was giving out refunds to those people anyways.antithesist wrote:Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread. I see, that is a dilemma. Maybe you could be pre-selling V2 with V1 included, but under a disclaimer with no refunds for V1?

Essentially this is what I'm doing currently, but I'm attempting to get a new page up that describes in depth the plans for V2, so maybe that will help. I would do some sort of package deal, but I'm afraid that I can't do anything like that now since we've reduced our product line into a single repository.antithesist wrote:I see, that is a dilemma. For the next month or so, I'll be packaging the MixControl Pro V1 release, along with the free upgrade to V2, with the upgrade for the sample repository for free to generate additional revenue for the V2 release. I haven't yet posted this on the website, but I will do so in the coming day or two. If anyone buys MCP V1, I'll go ahead and add the producer's sample repository license for free.

I use MCP all the time, I haven't had many issues with it.
I put it on the master buss and turn the limit gain down, saturation up, and if I'm making a mess of things I'll dial in the EQ and clean up the bass with the stereo field module. I do all those things anyway, and it does a serviceable job for each, I have no regrets about my purchase.
I look forward to V2, and I hope your developer problems get sorted as soon as possible.
