I like to try out demos to see how buggy stuff is before buying.

It seems to be mostly geared towards scoring. I don't think they even want a big share of the personal / conventional music market... at least it doesn't appear so.
Anyway, I own quite a few MOTU products but I can't get to the DP manual download because I don't own it I guess.

DP does not & never has had a downloadable,PDF manual, many
users would like this but it's never been an option.
What DP does have is one of the best written behemoth manuals in the DAW world that is typically about 700 pages!
Yes I'd love to have both the printed and a PDF manual,DP is a very deep program,I suspect one way not to encourage pirated use of the program is to not have dl access to the manual, a unique code to authorize DP is in each users manual.
The approach is a bit old fashioned and that's why some people are a bit perplexed if they ask a question about DP on Motunation and it appears they don't have a proper authorized copy long time users will refer to pages in the manual to answer questions or see if the person asking the question has a manual.
Myself I'd love to see both options but there's something really nice about the manual that you start to love when you've used the program a while,it's one of the most well written manuals in existence that requires more than a glance to appreciate.

I won't argue that they actively go after the film scoring market, but lately with the last two upgrades there has been an active focus on live music, rock, and plug ins for electronic music etc. Mostly I would say DP is less likely to be used for simple electronic music like House etc. Saying that though I know a guy who does House and Techno with DP. I do mostly Experimental music and Electro Industrial, the guy behind the biggest DP forum does 80's Rock, so there you go.LawrenceF wrote:It seems to be mostly geared towards scoring. DP doesn't have a PDF, it has about half the manual embedded into the application. It's a quirk, and a running joke. MOTU are strange for sure.

Well...a host of videos is the next best thing to the host itself. Not as good as a demo, but moving pictures of a DAW targeted at scoring moving picture shows should be enough for any small audio cult looking to induce new followers.machinesworking wrote:A host of video demos of the program have gone up at motu.com

DP is not geared for mainly scoring,it's a deep program that can be used many ways for all types of uses,it just happens to be one of the best DAWs for scoring.
I think it would be safe to say the majority of DP users do not score films but many people who do score film love and use DP.

BIG CORRECTION!!!
Breaking News!!
It was just confirmed,DP8 now comes with both a PDF manual and the printed DP manual!!!
This is the 1st time,I guess we'll need to see if it becomes available for non DP users.

I like the PT-like track panels, where (I can only assume) you can show/hide columns there at will. A lot of what I assume to be the case about the general UI design from looking at the vids (even if they don't actually show any of it) seems pretty well done.
The way pitch correction is implemented - per track / on demand in arrange - is something Cubase users have been seeking. I also like that the video window docks, although I can't say I do much video work.
The UI looks - from a distance anyway - really well done to me. Kinda always did but being Mac only before, I could very easily ignore it.
Not so much anymore. Now I'm tempted.

I posted these questions over at Motunation but I got no definitive answers. I'm hoping it'll be different here from those who already have used DP8 and can answer.
Does DP8 have track auto zoom like Sonar and Reaper?
I read and saw a demo video about the plugin organizer using FX plugins but I did not see any mention of instrument plugins. Can you organize instrument plugins as well in DP8?
Does DP8 have a tabbed samples and plugins browser like Studio One?
I have a Openlabs LX5 workstation keyboard. How easy will be for me to map the physical knobs, buttons, and faders on the LX5 to DP8's mixer? found this very simple and str8forward to do in Reaper and Studio One Pro.
Also does anyone have any idea when the Windows version of DP8 will be released?
Thanks for all your answers in advance!

Cheers for that!
Didn't know that about "any" program though. I have three installed, auslogics DD and regcleaner, and the I decided to go with that microsoft virus thing (since so many recommended it) essentials I think??
