That's how I buy ALL software. If it's useful to me in it's current state, I'll purchase it for what it is. If it gets updated, that's a bonus to me!

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way at that point. Use it till the wheels fall off.

The combined influence of US/UK musicians and DJ's (with help from the Germans/Italians) have fundamentally shaped modern dance music.
I don't think you're going to accomplish much by pointing fingers and finding blame. Forgive and forget, and try to do something positive to restore balance to the universe- it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

If you're judging the quality of Computer Music Magazine by the Top 10 lists it puts out, then you are missing out.

I am on a short hiatus from my subscription to the magazine (planning to re-subscribe next year) but magazine had several very strong points to it.

Among other things, it tended to be very up to date in the news section for a print magazine. There were various things where I saw it cover a given tech topic before MIT's own Technology Review (a magazine that is widely regarded for its technical focus).

Over the years it has had great interviews (anybody remember ones like Harry Gregson-Williams and Hans Zimmer back around 2002?), behind the scenes videos (Hybrid Soundsystem going through their favorite plugs and Reaktor ensembles as used on "Formula of Fear" and "I Choose Noise" for instance) and they do a good job of giving a sense of "what is out there".

I tend to think of their reviews as overviews that help me choose where to go for more info, their news section as a great way to keep somewhat up to date during the times I'm not on the Internet every day and their tutorials and lists of tips to be very, very useful - especially to those just starting out.

I've been actively working with digital music production since 1998 and started reading Computer Music Magazine somewhere 2002. SoundOnSound and Electronica had more in-depth reviews but nobody gave an overall survey of the current music scene or covered the variety that Computer Music Magazine did - and the others mags frequently missed several products they covered for a long time.
