I am using Auria and there really is nothing like it on the iPad. It's not an impulse buy -- you really do want to budget in an extra $50-60 over the cost of the app itself to get the PSP Echo, MicroWarmer, and FabFilter EQ -- though the included channel strip and mastering effects are awesome in their own right. But if you ever need to mix a track in a coffee shop, it's definitely the way to go.

Yeah, that's the closest comparison for Auria that I can think of: it's like a 48-track portastudio, but with world-class channelstrips and effects
It comes down to what do you use your iPad for, musically speaking? I'm happy I got Auria, as it gives me better confidence in mixing my iPad-only tracks. I can work on the tracks in GarageBand or BeatMaker or wherever, then pop them over to Auria for mixing and mastering. There's really nothing else available for serious mixing and mastering so if you plan on doing any of that on your iPad, then you need Auria.
But do plan on spending $30 for the FabFilter EQ even if you don't pop for the Microwarmer or Echo effects. It's a great EQ, but almost more importantly, it's got the only spectrum analyser available for Auria so far

Yeah... It's definitely still a V1 release and not a V2 release in some respects. It doesn't help that Apple has been sitting on their most recent update for almost a month without pushing it out to the App Store. I haven't run into any really bad crashes or memory problems, but most of my projects only have 8-12 tracks. I'm working on one now that will have up to 16 or 20 so I'll have to see if I run into memory problems there. The convolution reverb plug-in could use some CPU optimizing too (though it's not nearly as inexcusable as the way using the side-chain input on the compressor in Tabletop kills the CPU in that app).
Still, as long as I remember to ABF (Always Be Freezing) my tracks, I can work around the CPU limitations.

I'll need to look that up. I know it has different pan laws though!

In my opinion it's stable. There are still some little quirks to work out, but on the AuriaApp.com forums, the developers have been VERY responsive.
EDIT: I just read the MusicRadar review, which addresses this somewhat:
Auria lives up to the hype. It isn't perfect, and iOS limits what can be done (for now). For example, the iPad's handling of memory can slow things down after long sessions, but only temporarily. Still, we managed to play back 48 tracks on our iPad 2, although there was audio artifacting at the start of the tracks with the Alesis unit. Anything under 32 tracks, however, was pristine - the sound quality is there, and you get out as good as you put in. Often better, in fact, thanks to the excellent effects.

Overall though the review is glowing and I have to agree with it!

I'm guessing that will be less of an issue once AudioBus gets implemented. You'll be able to do your MIDI sequencing in Genome, route that to PPG WaveGenerator (or whatever), through Moog Filatron (or some other effect), and then to Auria to record it. Personally, I'd rather see Auria focus on its core competencies (really excellent Audio mixing and mastering) then diversify into MIDI sequencing and make a hash of it, but I guess I just need to have faith at the guys over at WaveMachine Labs... I've doubted them before, and I was proven wrongShane Sanders wrote:I hope they also develop a few instruments for it--a top notch sampler would be sweet.

I agree completely! Auria is a standard-setting application--it is what all iOS apps should aspire to. Furthermore, I read that they plan to ad MIDI sequencing capability to it as well.DrApostropheX wrote:I am using Auria and there really is nothing like it on the iPad.
