Reaper does it as well, called 'hide' instead of fold since you hide unused notes.ezelkow1 wrote:ableton's the only one I know of offhand
This is definitely one of my big requests for Studio One. It would be incredibly useful.

Yes. In the piano roll within Ableton Live, you can hide any unused note-lanes within the piano roll showing only the lanes that have active notes, thereby folding up the useless wasted space of empty lanes and making it much easier to see where notes fall in relation to each other even if they are several octaves apart.kev2525 wrote:What is note folding? Can you explain it?grymmjack wrote:I only want one thing: note-folding like ableton.
It's one of the coolest features of Ableton Live IMO. To make modifications to the piano roll part you can unfold the notes, or use the up/down arrow keys to increase/decrease a semitone or shift arrow keys (to move up and down by octave). It's super handy for drum programming especially, but I use it ALL the time to let me see every note and no gaps. It's a little bit to get used to the orientation of the folded stuff only, and it can be a little strange seeing for example like 5 black notes, and 2 white ones collapsed together, but once you understand what's happening it's a really great way to work with notes.

Hey I didn't realize the REAPER had this feature. One more reason on the queue to check it out when the next major version comes alongbraj wrote:Reaper does it as well, called 'hide' instead of fold since you hide unused notes.ezelkow1 wrote:ableton's the only one I know of offhand

In Reaper for me it is especially useful when you have your notes display color via note, so once you hide unused notes all your Cs are green, Bs are blue, or whatever. Then the music takes on another 'painting' aspect. I'd love to see the option to display piano roll notes in a couple more ways like by note number, actually I want a mutant hybrid of Studio One and Reaper, that would be my perfect DAW.

There is only One perfect DAW, and it will never be made as long there is more than one user.

Presonus: "please optimize the cpu useage...... (dial tone......) hello???......."
Reaper: "please optimize your midi.......(dial tone.....) hello????........"
I have no idea what I'll do with X2 if it actually works out. I can't believe what I've been able to do with it so far. Too good to be true......I'm sure I'll run into a showstopper soon........

Yeah all my available DAW funds are tied up in Studio One and Reaper, I'm not buying a third just to realize C doesn't do some other major thing as well as A or Bhibidy wrote:Yeah, I gave upbraj wrote:In Reaper for me it is especially useful when you have your notes display color via note, so once you hide unused notes all your Cs are green, Bs are blue, or whatever. Well, look at it like this, dingdongs like me can beta test it for you
Seriously though, I waited with much skepticism. It took a shitload of peeps giving high marks and a bunch of videos (I watched a lot of groove 3 stuff since I have a pass) before doing it.
We'll see.
S1 is bought and paid for though, if this is not a paid update, I get it regardless

Hibidy:
Out of curiosity, what do you like about X2? I'm an S1 user and I love it. What advantages does X2 have? How do you rate its piano roll? What about midi routing? Is it easy to trigger multiple instruments from one midi channel?
thanks

I can't use S1. It's not that the features are not good, it's that three guitar tracks with plugins I like and it chokes out CPU, and that is with an i7. So, that's been documented by a lot of people. Sonar isn't as efficient as reaper, but it's not too bad.stillshaded wrote:Hibidy:
