Thanks dudes.
Well, it was more difficult when i was living with my parents 5 years ago, now i'm far away from them (1 kilometer and living in a hidden place is
enough to me)

Yes, my life has been really tough and hard, and somehow i know what mustn't be done. I never wanted to be like him.
Somehow i could canalize all the pain and all the shit into good things, to music, art, etc.
What always impresses me, is that nowadays i could be completelly mad or something.

I don't wish for anybody a life like the one i have passed. But in the another hand, i'm very proud of being myself.

I always was agree with that phrase: "You can choose your friends, but not your family".
In Japan, there is a word which means this easily, Nakama, which means "external family", friends, etc.
Not blood family, of course.

But sorry about your father! Any hints as to his crime? Tax evation?
I was talking with my uncle today (his brother), we really don't know yet, but all points to drugs affairs. As usual.
Well, i can breath a bit, at least for 3 or 4 months. Something is something :)

Have a good day, pals :)

Dear OSCers, why not to create a facebook page for OSC?

It could be a nice way to improve and share infos between participants, and (why not) have some chat :)

The page, of course, is not intended as a replacement of our current pages on KVR and the "headquarter" on google sites (as, for instance, no one should be forced to have a fb account!).

Any opinions?

That settles it then

no seriously, what value it's going to add? except for some advertising / marketing, which is not a bad thing IMO. It can attract more participants, etc. Apart from that what else? No, I am not discarding your idea. I neither love or hate FB, I hardly log in to my FB account and I have only 5 friends  but if it can help OSC to reach a new height then why not.

@Irion: Life is complicated my friend. I don't know how you turn negative into positive energy which reflects in your work (songs, pictures, posts). It shows how strong you are, I couldn't have done it in your situation. I have utmost respect for you. I sincerely hope and pray to god that all your problems washes away soon.

I don't know Facebook, but do they give accounts to anything? I thought there were rules about that.

I guess it would be good if it attracted more people to join (how would that happen exactly, ads?), but bad if it split the discussion and information from here and/or caused unnecessary work.

Chat would surely be fun, but I believe one would need an account to do that on FB? If it came down to that, IRC would maybe be just as good or better? Or maybe even SoundCloud has a chat function? I will check.

Every fb user can create a page for his shop, business, fanpage, whatever. He can also decide not to be the only administrator by nominating others from his friends list.

A page in facebook (IMHO) should attract more people because of his visibility on the search engines (apart fb itself); in addition, there are a lot of musicians on fb that could be interested on OSC.

Regarding the chat function in soundcloud: no way, at the moment, unless they're planning to spring a surprise in the next sc :(

So it would be on a single user's (an individual) account? That would be trouble should the person leave or be indisposed etc.

But isn't MySpace really the place for music related networking?

And what about this point:

Err no... MySpace sucks. Facebook has many more users these days, so it would be a better place. I think you can make some sort of organization page and have multiple admins. But, posting to Facebook would be there only so would be more work to maintain in addition to the main site and forums/etc.
Oh, and did I mention I hate Facebook? :bang:

Totally agree. Suddently for some reason, my soundcloud links on MySpace don't work :S
That's why i'm making my own website.

Anyway i tested the new beta of Next Soundcloud sometime ago, and i think they are going to put a chat or something if i can remember well.

Thanks for your kind words, mate. I felt honoured and proud by your words, really. Hugs. :)

Have a good day guys :)

Not a big fan of FB either tbph, especially after the 'tracking cookies' scandal which showed a bit of true color which I didn't like at all. Besides, what's www about if it's not the same thing that FB does? I just don't get it really..

FB hit the 1 billion user this week but how many of them are musicians? I would expect most musicians are aware of KVR if not all so in a way they are aware of OSC, Cafe contest, etc. Not to mention most of them hate FB. z.prime is not the only one :-D. If the sole purpose of it is to attract more participants then I am not sure how successful it will be but there is no harm in trying. Plus it can also help advertise the products of the sponsors so it will make them happy. As far as overhead is concerned it's not much, mandatory updates at the beginning and at the end plus couple of updates during the contest.

I have another suggestion here, in addition to FB how about putting advertisements in other music oriented sites e.g. Reverbnation, MySpace, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, etc. Almost every musician has a profile/page on most of these sites so chances of attracting more participants is high. Yes, I know they charge money but they might waive it off.

Folks, in some ways increasing awareness and participation is good, but have you considered what effect doubling or tripling the number of contributions will have on voting? Voting during the Dune BE competition was pretty difficult and time consuming as it is. Imagine voting for 100+ entries each month

When the OSC was the subject of a letter of the month in CM magazine I was expecting a huge flood of submissions - didn't really happen though...
My idea at the time if it did blow up was to break the entries apart into separate divisions, perhaps based on region. The first week of voting would determine the divisional champions, then those winners would compete in the second week of voting for ultimate champion. Could be a lot of fun were it to happen! :D

What is the idea around FB or MS? What are you thinking to get, in details?
What FB or MS has and it is not possible to achieve with forum/soundcloud/email/communicator?

Is is really necessary to do strong promotion of OSC to get more new people here?
