I brought up d'addario strings once and just to mention it there ARE some differences between the one set I mentioned and the standard fare. Now, we're talking about the exact same set number but the ones I really liked came in a clear wrapper, and the strings were two by two by two (no all six individual)
I'll have to look into this. The ones one my 1421 are just FAB! Not so much with the other sets I've used........

Got a gordon smith V that weighs nothing at the moment, It is impossible to play sitting down but wanted a hardtail for quick retuning on the fly (A floyd equipped guitars which is like my other 10 or so! only flaw). It sounds like instant Mastodon on thier first ep and two albums

Its a fuggly thing, All almost unfinished wood/totally unfancy like me but it plays well and sounds pretty beast

As I'm far too lazy to get the digital camera out, This is almost identical to it except the one I've got has EMGs in it (for a change) and is abit more beat up:hibidy wrote:This is not an excuse to not post pics!!!!!!!Dean Aka Nekro wrote:I will keep a lookout also mate, Be intresting to tryhibidy wrote:I brought up d'addario strings once and just to mention it there ARE some differences between the one set I mentioned and the standard fare. When I buy in 3packs or 6packs they are two by two. When I buy in single pack the are one by one. It had been so long since I changed strings if there was a difference in tone I didn't notice although the three pack variety did seem slighly more firm to the touch then the single pack ones.hibidy wrote:I brought up d'addario strings once and just to mention it there ARE some differences between the one set I mentioned and the standard fare. I've been seriously thinking of investing in just strings so I'd never have to buy a pack again or atleast not for a long while

90 for 25 packs is 3.60 a pack.

Be careful how you store them if you buy so many the high strings can rust if they are left around for a long time.tapper mike wrote: I've been seriously thinking of investing in just strings so I'd never have to buy a pack again or atleast not for a long while

I'm always worried about having too many as I seem to like changing brands
I'm pretty bad about it
I really liked GHS boomer for a while. Then I tried those expensive cobalts, and I liked those (last a long time) but they are kinda tight. Then I tried the d'addario and loved the ones (which were a single pack for some reason) I got.......now I'm back to square one

I like GHS Boomers also, However I am not sure if they still do the set which I like (liked?), It was the Zakk Wylde set with a .70 for the bottom, They mix well with D'AddarioXLs. I'll have to check to see if they still do that set otherwise I'll just stick to buying regular XL sets but a few singles for the .60 and/or .70
The two Scheters I have came with IIRC Elixar (probably spelt that wrong?) coated strings and I was not into them, They felt strange and the stock strings on any guitar I've ever bought came with the wrong gauge for my wants/needs. So they get/got removed after no more than a week or two. I probably could get used to them and on the two highest which are the only two I usually have that are unwound it might be worth trying in those posistions?
Still its me and meh to all the extended life stuff when the brand and range I've always used just work already and break in quickly with a good stretch and an hour or two thrashing away.
Reason that GHS might not do that set of Boomers anymore is Dunlop now do thier own range of strings and even though I am not a huge ZW fan to know for sure, I'll bet he moved straight to Dunlop. Its all incestuos Gibson/Epi sig guitar, Marhsall sig amp, MXR sig pedals and dunlop strings and other accessories seems logical. Doubt Dunlop do a set with a .70 as the low string also which makes them useless to me
