When saving as "patch+samples" in Kontakt, Kontakt names the folder <patch name> Samples. Seems pretty logical and not something that should have an additional setting?

I always thought the Ensoniq method of mapping was the best - it would immediately ask for root key after hitting Sample Stop. From there it would map the sample up and down the keyboard accordingly. You could build a drum kit by hitting the next empty key or map to ranges by choosing all C keys for instance. It made it really simple. Obviously you could edit the actual key range specifically afterwards as well.
That is why I would suggest to implement direct mapping. It is the most direct way for creative sampling.
As I am a Reaper user I think of crazy routing anything to a TX16Wx instance and can sample anything that comes across.
Then it should be configurable in the preferences how samples are mapped and spread.
For fast and easy sampling, mapping should start at a selectable key, with options to omit black keys and a selectable play mode, building splits would be handy too.:D

I know this is a lot of FR but this thing (most of all direct sampling) has a great potential as you can see by the great response in this forum.

Cheers

I am actually a bit surprised at the interest in this, as I thought all real sampler users had gone to the sea by now.
Anyhow, I like the suggestions so far, and it sounds like I should expand the sample section quite a bit (threshold, mapping etc).

I am working hard to fix all reported issues and as many feature requests as I can. Plans are to have a new drop next week. I'll try to answer stuff here as much as I can as well... busy busy...

Makes sense. And easier indeeed. Only aber is of course if you first save a program "Monkey", then do a Save As "Baboon" in the same folder. If you check "copy content", logically the samples should then end up copied into a new dir "Baboon Samples", if not, you will reference the samples in "wrong" folder. But that might not be much of an issue for most?

ACR23 wrote:Great work! I downloaded TX16Wx and gave it a testrun. I like the gui and especially the file browser. But I've got a few feature requests:

- Zooming in & out doesn' t work relative to the mouse position. Would be great if zooming in and out would be relative to the current mouse position.
Hm. It should really be focused on the current locations. I'll check it out.
ACR23 wrote: - Triggering different parts of one sample: I'd like like to trigger different parts of the same sample with different keys/pads. This is not possible without saving the parts as independent samples. It would be very helpfull if it was possible to dublicate a keyrange and automaticly get an copy of the sample for further editing. It would be also nice to layout parts of a sample directly from the wave editor, without using the slice function.

- Midi learn for setting up keyranges and rootnotes would be nice.
Actually, both the "Wave Start" as well as using slices to set up regions to play of a longer wave can be used to do what you describe. You can also copy parts of waves by moving the start+end marker and then do a "duplicate range". (Quick select regions is a feature coming, should make that quicker).

MIDI input for note values is a great idea. Actually, full MIDI remoting is a requested feature, but as it stands right now I don't know when I will be able to implement it fully.
Cheers

Do you have any plan to add FLAC support ?
(The quality should be better than Ogg, but with less HD space reuirement than WAV)
Should be reasonably easy. Added to list.

annwled wrote:thank you for this very good plugin sampler, i got so used to shorcircuit that i don't know now witch one i will end up using! (like previous post i agreed with the colors choise, perfect ..and maybe for future releases color presets? it such a great gui.)
Actually, since TX16Wx 2 uses a skinning scheme internally, at some point in the near future, this will be exposed and you will be able to build (and share) complete graphics definitions for the instrument. At some point I will make a TXv1 skin just to enjoy the nice green LED feeling again. ;-)

Speaking about the graphics, how about increasing the width of the scrollbars and +/- zoom buttons? :)

I for one have a very deep theory about how the tools available for sampling in the computer realm have directly discouraged sampling. The developed musical technique of sampling/mapping/editing was broken up like Babel into multiple parts. Seems programers couldn't be bothered with covering all bases of the process - unless there were licensing issues?

But for me, it meant added software/losing resources to run multiple programs, a mass of file saving/loading added for every sample taken, and overall a huge headache. - It's no wonder virtual synths are a dime a dozen and virtual Samplers (that aren't only Sample Players) are rare, especially since apparently many programmers have never used a cohesive solid-state sampler before. And to think, NI-M is still fairly new and MPC-R is just released.

I bet TX helps to usher in a new era of sampling, as it's been a long time coming. We didn't go to the sea, we've just been awaiting for the tools to come to be.

I'd like to have a global filter / envelope / LFO etc. section at the program level. So it would be possible to modify globally some parameters for all the groups/split/samples.

what about this one guys? what do you think about it elcallio?

I tried to load a SFZ sample, and i had an error window : "adress out of bounds".
I don't know what it means, but i wanted to report it.

Oh, and by the way : Thank you for considering Flac ! :)

Did i ask for allow to read .GIG files ? It seems like a rather common sample format, isn't it ?

Can you send me the SFZ and its samples?

It was the "ATC-Xi 007 Bass 303 Deep" sample from the Zampler library (i was trying tx16W with a couple of SFZ lying around).

a couple of remarks (do you prefer that we send e-mails, or is this thread made for this ?) :

1 - am i the only one finding the fonts a bit small ? I am on a 1920x1080 resolution, and it is a bit hard to read, so i'm asking...

2- One thing that i find annoying is that when you close the GUI, then re-open it, the browser doesn't stay in the folder where ou were working (it goes back to the default path, so you have to browse back your HD to find again the folder where you were loading samples) ;

3- Am I the only one finding some knobs a bit too sensitive (in a "all or nothing" kind of way) ?

4 - if you set the seq to "tempo", i would expect a drop-down menu for entering values (like for the number of steps). It might be better than mouse scrolling for setting the desired value ;
