I'll be watching this thread to find out whether Auria lives up to the hype. I would also like to know where there's an audio device for an iPad to make Auria's 24-channel input meaningful.

What are you wanting to connect? What's your DAW? What kind of plugs? Are you looking for instruments, controllers, a portable recording solution? There are so many good programs out there. Might help to know what you are wanting to accomplish with it.

Apple's Garage Band IOS is the single best music app.
The reason is that it is the most comprehensive, easy to use app available in the App Store, and it's $5. Start there, and then add the pieces you feel lacking.
Auria, on the other hand, at $50, is probably the most capable app available. Start with Garage Band!

"apps" is a pretty generic term.
Synths, MIDI controllers, multitrack recorders...

What instruments do you play?
We make a whole ton of different music creation apps and accesorires for guitar/bass, vocalists, DJs, beatmakers and keyboardists.

I mainly use my iPad as a MIDI controller.
It's EXCELLENT for that, especially with a versatile app like Lemur that lets me build and arrange all manner of controllers/interfaces.
I'm a huge fan of Lemur.
http://liine.net/en/products/lemur/
That said, there are other options for apps that allow you to roll your own interface;
TouchOSC (already mentioned) being one of them.
However, there are also quite a few smaller apps, that lack the customizable qualities of those mentioned above, but have their own unique, and inspiring features.
One of those is MidiMe.
It has a great feature that lets you record your x/y movements and play them back instantly (when you lift your finger).
Unfortunately, the author has pulled it from the app store in protest of Apples "abuse of the patent system", so who knows if it will ever reappear.
I recommend keeping an eye on it just in case he resubmits it; super little app.

If you are interested in integrating some generative MIDI control/generation into your setup I recommend giving the excellent Runxt Life a try.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/runxt-l ... 82727?mt=8
On the non-controller front (though it can be controlled and synced via MIDI) is the already mention, and fantastic Loopy HD.

Aside from Lemur, this is actually one of my most used apps.
Not sure what your workflow is like, but this is a jewel if you are into incorporating live-looping.

Garage band for iOS is quite usable even on the iPhone. The 'smart' instruments each have little surprises that make me quite happy I spent the 5$.
On iPad it would be a joy with the extra screen real estate.

I have a ton of apps that I love... not even sure what to recommend.
As far as a controller, I would check out Geo Synthesizer. It really makes use of the small screen real estate and steps away from traditional keyboard controllers.
Sampletank has some great libraries, and I often connect Geo Synthesizer to Sampletank via MidiBridge, which is an all around midi utility program that helps send and receive midi from programs that don't support Virtual MIDI and/or Core Audio.
Here's a video of me using both together.
It's a great tool for quickly laying down some ideas, which can then be refined in your DAW.
As far as controllers, I like TouchOSC. I'd love to try Lemur some day, but it feels like it has a bit of a learning curve for what I need.
For great sounds, affordability, ease of use, I'd recommend ThumbJam, DrumJam, Garage Band. All are easy to start playing with, and can do some incredible things.
For recording and idea creation on the go, my two favorites are NanoStudio and BeatMaker 2.
So many apps, so little time....
