Spent some time playing around with The Drop last night and it sounds great. Had an odd random crash in Sonar X2 that I was unable to reproduce, but other than that, things were running smoothly.
The Drop is really a nice step forward in filter design.
Will the new filter types be available at launch or will they get added in post-1.0?

Absolutely no doubt about that.. the guy has invested his time/passion in this product, how money measures that is Andy's choice but from a buyers perspective and from the feedback on here the price is a no brainer by all accounts.faun2500 wrote:At just under £45 I think it is fair price!
I am glad all that hard work is clearly paying off.

Re: comparison with Etch. I'm going to have to do a more in-depth head-to-head later tonight, but my first impression was more in favour of The Drop. (Warning: artistic, totally non-scientific description to follow) It sounds juicier, somehow more "3D" and more alive than Etch, if that makes any sense. The gnarl is gnarlier, the whomp whompier, and the feeping feepier. Er, yeah.
Thing is, though, that Etch's (trans-)modulation system is deeper and allows for more craziness. Add to that the comb filter, the distortion types and (simple but effective) compression, and I think these two will sit comfortably side by side. Definitely not either/or in this case, as Etch remains a great-sounding filter toybox.
Looking forward to the additional algorhythms (pun fully intended)!

Sorry for the noob quesstion, but am i right in thinking that i can use the drop as replacement for my synth filter? I've been trying to recreate a pluck tipe of sound with the drop but i have failed so far. What's the setting that i should use to get that kind of house pluck sound from it?

Can you put this filter in other synths please...?
I would love to have it in that TX16Wx sampler for instance
Though it seems to work fine in monophonic mode with the envelopes.
Has anyone got a favourite synth's oscs to feed it with?

XP SP2 issue resolved! It sounds fantastic. Love it. Amazing. Thanks!wesleymayhem wrote:Thanks. I will when I get home from day gig... and will let you know in this thread.andy_cytomic wrote:Ok, I've changed the toolset for the v0.9.4 build to be the Visual Studio 2008 one instead, so hopefully The Drop will now load on XP SP2. Can you please give it a go?wesleymayhem wrote:
Thanks... Renamed or in originally named form, the VST is not showing up in Ableton Live (WinXP Pro SP2).
FYI.
Can't wait to try it out.

I too find Etch to be slightly lifeless compared to The Drop. Don't get me wrong, Etch has a great sound and functionality, but I see it more on the FSU and tone sculpting end of things, it's a complex multi FX with revolutionary modulation.
Listening to the audio rate FM in The Drop really reminds me of my Korg Monotron and my MFB-Nanozwerg. It's razor sharp and present without seeming wiry. I haven't heard anything from The Drop that made me wow like the One Sided Tranny HPF demo did, that was quite simply the most lovely HPF I've ever heard in my life and the experience is seared into my being
but I'm guessing this will come with one of the many other filter models that are to be added.

Here is a wave from strobe passing through the strobe filter then etch then lfo tool and then the drop.
http://soundcloud.com/fm42/different-filters-on-a-444hz
Oversampling was applied in strobe, etch and the drop.
There is a very quiet whistlesound whenever i turn the cutoff in the drop completely down. Why is that? Here is what i mean (maybe use headphones):
http://soundcloud.com/fm42/noise-after-closing-filter
Inserting the drop on a track changes the timbre. The filter is fully open and it's not just the volume, because the difference is there even after normalizing the original sound and after passing through the opened filter. Here is an upload:

I am playing with the thought of buying the glue and drop together. Is there going to be a bundle price, maybe on the black friday?
Not saying that it isn't already a complete steal. 200$ per each plugin would be still a good price.
Just asking and thanks for the effort.

I'm thinking the same bundle purchase. Andy has already said there will be a dual purchase discount, which is the same total discount as if you already own the Glue. Great!Bathrobe wrote:I am playing with the thought of buying the glue and drop together. Is there going to be a bundle price

Even when a filter's completely open, it still colours the sound slightly, especially an analog filter. I'm guessing it's part of the modelling.

That doesn't make sense to me. The pre and post gain should only work with the wet signal. If you need more gain on the dry signal then insert a gain plugin prior to the drop, then turn the pre-gain down to control how much drive the filter gets. The way that Andy has designed it gives you total control over the gain staging whereas if the post-gain controlled both the wet and dry then you would have to do more extreme compensating after the drop (as well as a lot more often). You would also find yourself wishing that it was the other way around. Putting a gain plugin after the drop would achieve exactly what you are suggesting.
Short story: Andy's way give you total control, what you are suggesting removes one level of control.

Just got a chance to check this out, I'm pretty enthused about how versatile it's feeling. It's logically efficient, the layout and routing of things feels both rich and not overwhelming. The knob travel is also efficient - it's feeling blissfully easy to dial things in. The sound just seems flat out extra-dimensional, very organic in subtleties.
Fantastic plug, can't wait to get into it more.
