Wicked! Thanks Xenakios. Won't get to try it for a few days but this looks like a killer release!

If it is more responsive, it might be because I found some bugs that made things go slower and I fixed some of that stuff...abstractcats wrote:Every thing seems much more responsive. Also, the "Generate" function is great!
Thanks!

NOOOOOooo!! Attempting to load VSTs or clicking in the mixer section causes a crash. The blue bar that pops up to show messages, says "HourGlass has initialized, 8 CPUs detected" and then is crashes...very sad
Hope the info helps,

Sorry, HG works fine when launched, and every thing seems work fine, but when I click in the area if the four boxes(in the top of the mixer section) where the VST would be loaded(all other parts of the mixer, seem to be working fine), HG crashes, as in it stops responding and the gives the "HourGlass has initialized, 8 CPUs detected" message and then crashes. I'll do a few screen captures today, to give a better description. Sorry about the sketchy details.Xenakios wrote:Not really...abstractcats wrote: Hope the info helpsCan you please explain more in detail when does the crash exactly occur? Already when starting HourGlass or when trying to load plugins (any plugin at all, because that doesn't crash here?) or when clicking the mixer?

This is the confusing part, as that particular message should only ever appear when HourGlass is started. Do you have some kind of option in the OS turned on that automatically restarts a crashed application? (Which OS would that be, by the way?) If it's not about that, I suspect something is going horribly wrong if the code manages to go back on its own where it shows that initialization message...abstractcats wrote:HG crashes, as in it stops responding and the gives the "HourGlass has initialized, 8 CPUs detected" message and then crashes.

I find that, if I go into prefs, in HG, that the vst folder is not selected,if select the vst folder I created in HG's folder in the "app data"folder in W7. after some time Avast gives a Malware report and says it has blocked the "threat". But, I also, had FLstudios vst folder selected in the prefs options menu, I've removed the FLS vst folder from the list of locations and HG seems to work fine. I'll let you know if I find any thing else
PS: If this is an issue with HG, maybe add a dialogue box saying "No VST folder selected, would you like to select a vst folder now?" and give these options:
[Yes|Cancel] Yes, would take to the vst folder locations options menu in the "prefs" menu. And Cancel wound return HG to where it was before the vst section of the mixer section was clicked.

HourGlass scans the plugin folders by starting an external process for each plugin/dll file. Perhaps Avast considers that a "suspicious pattern". Sigh...I guess I can put in an option to use the old in-process plugin scanning. But that then causes problems with plugins that crash right away when they are loaded. There's no way to win in this scenario. I bet almost any user will have at least one VST dll that can't even be opened so far as to see about the name and effect/instrument info without the plugin crashing (and taking HourGlass down with it)...Which is why I implemented the out of process plugin scanning. One solution here might be to scan the plugins so that the dll isn't loaded at all and just grab the dll file names. But then that could just cause a ton of non-working entries to appear in HourGlass's plugin selection menus. (HourGlass can't do anything meaningful with VST instruments and occasionally plugins also come with additional dll files that are not VST plugins. Distinguishing these dlls from VST effects is not very easy without actually loading the dll and so on...)abstractcats wrote:Ok, here is moreXenakios wrote:This is the confusing part, as that particular message should only ever appear when HourGlass is started. I'm on W7 X64.

I've thought about adding the dialog box when no VST folders have been selected but decided against that for now, because I don't want to encourage people too much to use the VST hosting feature. (As it's obviously far from error free.)
Also note that the scanning process usually starts when clicking the mixer insert slot area and may take a very long time if it's the first time the scan is done (or if there's some kind of bug that the scanning results haven't been cached properly). It's possible that if you try clicking around or use keyboard shortcuts in HourGlass while the scan is happening, something weird will happen. I've been planning to make the scan stage more obvious, show some progress and disallow using the mouse and keyboard in the application, but haven't gotten around to finishing that yet.

The downloads seem to be working for me. Is there any particular error message? Do you have an antivirus program that automatically blocks unknown (or "not popular/not commonly downloaded") files?Selfik wrote:I can't download HG from your site...tried with opera, chrome and explorer...can you please check?

The addition of a points per second function in the envelope generator is going to make things so much easier and more precise when working with longer files. Thank you, as always, for the update.
