Not quite sure what to think of this.
Checked a few presets and was like 'sounds nothing like the 101 *i* had', but the impression got (somewhat) better once i initialized the synth (Browse/Restore default) and started to make a bass from scratch.
So definitely more testing time needed here in order to draw any definitive conclusion. Unfortunately the 15 minute limit makes it pretty much impossible to really get anywhere before the thing goes dead. Permitting at least an hour would have been more like it, especially with all those options.
Complaint: 16' is not 16'. Its really 8', meaning to actually get 16' you have to transpose the master tune down to -12. Wonder how such an obvious mistake could make it all the way into the final...

Are you getting the Lush synth yourself? If so let me know if you'd like to do a review.core wrote:You're going to do a great set yourself, no?Aiynzahev wrote:I have to say, I am really impressed with the presets, there are just so many and so many of them are by Sebastian himself. Can anyone confirm this? If you put two notes side by side and don't leave any space between the filter ENV is not retriggered. Also the octave 16' and all above are one octave too high.satak wrote:I think the mono filter env trigger is bugged. It act as it was set always to gate. Trig mode is not working?
From the manual:
Trigger - This parameter decides when the Envelope is triggered. We have the following values to choose from:
• Trig - Each incoming to LuSH-101 note re-triggers an Envelope.
• Gate - The note re-triggers Envelope if any other note is not played at the moment. Therefore, the trigger is not
generated for overlapping notes.
Trig and Gate behave differently only in Mono mode, in Poly mode there is no difference between Trig or Gate.
Edit: You need to set polyphony to 1. Mono button don't change how the trigger mode works at all.

I feel the same way. I can really great punchy bass sounds out of the TAL-Bassline quickly. Can't do much of the same with Lush-101. It's got a million controls but I can't read any of them so maybe I'm missing something important to use it as a simple 101.Ingonator wrote:Did anyone manage to get some really deep (earth shattering...) Bass sounds with LuSH-101?
I made a quite nice one in TAL BassLine but so far it's impossible to get such sounds in LuSH-101. Even adding the Sub Osc does not really make a big difference.
Here is a preset done with TAL BassLine (no FXs added):
TAL Bassline_Bass Demo 01
So far it was no big problem doing such sounds with most of the newer VA synths (e.g. Saurus, Oxium, Diva etc.).
Either i'm stupid or such sounds are not possible in LuSH-101 which would be strange. Usually i'm quite good in finding my way around new synths but in this case maybe i have missed something. Or not?
Ingo
I really wish the TAL-Bassline was 64bit for OSX. Unfortunately the product page displays the sad words "Not supported anymore". Had to leave it behind.

Any infos about the timbres? Are they just fixed waveforms mixed together with the "Source Mixer"?

Like the tiny MODE ('normal' vs 'sh101') buttons in the filter section?Echoes in the Attic wrote:It's got a million controls but I can't read any of them so maybe I'm missing something important to use it as a simple 101.

Downloaded and played with it for awhile...
Preset playing....
my take:
for bass and lead I didn't much like the presets I randomly selected, but for pads and rhythmic stuff it sounds really really good.
It definitely needs a draft mode for me, but this is an older mac....
I won't pay $200 for it, but if they ever have a 50% off xmas sale or something like that I would buy it.
I don't like the GUI much....seems very crowded with small text, and that the presets aren't a drop down menu for me is always a turn off....
my two cents

Yeah I'm not sure what that was set to when I played with it from the init patch. Is the default normal?hakey wrote:Like the tiny MODE ('normal' vs 'sh101') buttons in the filter section?Echoes in the Attic wrote:It's got a million controls but I can't read any of them so maybe I'm missing something important to use it as a simple 101.

I've got great vision too but for the first time I actually pulled my screen closer to my face to read labels. And those keys are massive. For no reason.

The timbres are everything you see on the main page, but no effects or mixer settings are saved with them. They are the raw presets, with the one insert effect.Wildfunk wrote:Any infos about the timbres? Are they just fixed waveforms mixed together with the "Source Mixer"?
You can make a "preset" with one, or many timbres, mixed with effects, eq settings etc in the mixer page.

A big thank you for the reminderbox ... really big thanks. If 15 min limitation and eyepain isn't enough, a spammed reminderbox hits the spot.

It's a shame - they've certainly achieved a pretty slick, crisp, photo-realistic look, but at the expense of severely undermining the usability.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I've got great vision too but for the first time I actually pulled my screen closer to my face to read labels.

It's just big enough not to be a serious problem for me. It's the same with SPL Passeq, beautiful to look at but you simply cannot read those numbers without much effort.
I know it's probably more difficult than it sounds, but resizable GUI's are simply the best way, considering how different our vision and screen sizes are.

Exactly. Straight from the book of "How to turn away as many potential customers as possible by the making the demo too annoying to even bother with".Crackbaby wrote:A big thank you for the reminderbox ... really big thanks. As a paying customer, I can deal with the hassles of copy protection, even if crackers get it easier. However demo's that actually make it difficult for you to even spend a little quality time with a product is where I draw the line. This dam window popped up every couple minutes. 15 minutes is annoyingly short anyways. If you can't save, give us at least half an hour. Pop-up window is next level annoying. This actually eclipses tone2's initial ElectraX demo for most annoying demo version and even they modified that to give a longer demo time, with no pop-up.
