Pity they couldn't have added smoothing to the cutoff slider... When you've got the photorealistic analog box thing going on, little things like that can really kill the illusion. I know you're 'supposed' to make the filter move with the modulators, but if you can't do that 'squeeeoowweeoow' thing with the filter slider (grimacing optional but advised), what's the point?
Actually, it sounds like there is some smoothing added, but the slider isn't polled very quickly, so you get a kinda smoothed S+H effect. A bit disappointing, but not a deal breaker exactly.
Supersaw should've been more JP-8000-like with the highpassed saws and nonlinear detune. I don't know why but highpassed saws 'fit together' better when you stack them. Probably something to do with the doubling of fundamentals. Even looking on a scope, straight saws look awkward in clusters compared to highpassed ones. Roland's engineers knew this.
Other than that, I'm liking it actually. As an owner of Diva and Saurus I'm not sure I need this, but I love the drum kits they've put on here and the sync is very sweet.

This is a disappointment, it's the first plug-in ever which breaks the CPU of my PC into pieces! For the CPU, Diva is a sweet pussycat compared to this synth on my Intel quadcore Q6600 pc. Ok, it's a four year old pc but certainly not very slow.
Maybe the time has come that we can't play the instruments in real time anymore, but first have to freeze the tracks in order to hear the results. The recommended high end specs on the D16 website are to be taken seriously. Now you know why it has taken so long before the plug-in was launched. The computers were not ready for it at the time.
The GUI looks very nice, though.

So to anyone that has demoed this, and already has Diva... is it even worth considering this or does Diva already cover everything as far as the sound goes? I don't really care about the multi-timbral or arp functionality.

I think this has been said before but I'm +1ing it, I'm not crazy over sequenced presets, but the sequenced and layered/split presets are SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY! The sound quality also strongly reminds me of my days tweaking the 202, though that was over 10 years ago now

Why comparing them at all? They are different synths. What do you mean by "cover everything"?djanthonyw wrote:So to anyone that has demoed this, and already has Diva... is it even worth considering this or does Diva already cover everything as far as the sound goes? Although I'm a registered owner of Devastor and Phoscyon, I don't appear to be eligible for any loyalty discounts. While I'm curious, I really don't need another virtual analog synth at the current full price.

What sounds would this be able to do that Diva can't, and how do you think the sound quality compares?Igro wrote:Why comparing them at all? They are different synths. For me this doesn't sound as good as Diva. Just my subjective opinion though.djanthonyw wrote:

This synth is a hell of a lot of fun to play. Multiple Arps layered with Sweeps etc......I managed to create this simple patch in a couple of minutes and play the quick piece (of crap) in real time before the Demo timed out.......with more time I could get past three layers. It's not a matter of if I buy this synth but just a matter of when....
Lush Test
If you look at a single layer this synth might seem a bit bland but when you start working with multiple layers...wow...

The GUI looks very nice, though.
The way it works is, after you play your part, it automatically makes an invisible freeze file in the backround, and releases the cpu, all behind the scenes, and if you need to edit, it automatically "comes alive" again, etc.
it works very well, and i am surprised no other daw ever implemented it to this day.
But it would be ideal for the hungry stuff like this.

This is not directed at you but I really don't understand all the negativity in this thread. I guess it means people are expecting or searching for something that LuSH-101 is not.djanthonyw wrote:What sounds would this be able to do that Diva can't, and how do you think the sound quality compares?
Basic fact: it's a Roland SH-101 emulation.
But it's much more than that because there are 8 x SH-101s, some really nice effects, and the extra envelopes and LFOs and various trigger modes. The unison and super saw doesn't interest me much, but it's there if you want it and sounds decent (haven't used this side of it much).
The oscillators, envelope response and timing, filter response + resonance and the rest of the original controls are really close to the sound of the original synth, give or take a few pixels. It doesn't sound "perfect" but it certainly is not lacking in bass as some people have suggested. Comparing side by side with a real SH-101 it is close enough to convince most people.
While this may not be for everyone, it is incredibly useful for those of us who use the (real) SH-101 for various types of music that it's famous for, particularly the acid sounds. Instead multi-tracking the real synth it's now possible to get the sound in a plugin, and do some things the original could never do without extensive mods.
That for me is a win!
Peace,
Andy.
