Did they use Poly Six and MS20 ?

Cheers.
Doublecheck the Dare! album. If I'm right, the synths were mostly Roland. :)

Before Dare!, the Human League mainly use a miniKorg 700S, but the spinoff band Heaven 17 kept it with them.

Where the drums came from, I'm not sure but it sounds like a Linndrum indeed.

Good luck!

CORRECTION:

Phil Oakey, Jimmy Jam, & Terry Lewis (The producers for the Crash album) use a Yamaha DX7, Roland SH-101, & Roland TR-808 drum machine. :)

Jam & Lewis would use this as the foundation of the Janet Jackson Control album soon after. :D

I remember the Human League's singer talking in an interview about the futility of the "DX7 patch hunt", scrolling thru all the presets, "including the bomb drop" looking for a sound.

Jam and Lewis used the TR808 on a lot of their productions, mainly the SOS band, but on Control and the other Janet stuff it was a more modern drum sampler, I forget which. I don't hear much DX7 on there either. Their main piece of kit was a Mirage sampler (the bass on Control is a car horn sample). And that was real piano on What Have You Done for Me Lately.

Beside 808 & 909, Jimmy Jam also has a MPC60 & MPC2000.

But you're right and I'm was wrong. During the makings of Control, Jam & Lewis were moving away from the 808 as soon as music technology got better with samplers.

As for the Human League, I feel (IMHO) that their only downfall were not being able to change their sound as fast as they should have. But at least their legecy is alive and well today. :D

get some Linndrum and drumulator samples for your , erm..., drum sample vsti for the "Dare" sound.

for all previous albums, simply select a normal synth patch and wobble the fine tune knob while you play :) :hihi:

and don't forget that at one point they used a Roland GR300 guitar synth system - that's what they used to produce that bizzarely out-of-tune horn-like riff on "Fascination" :x

I remember that Future Music article (I was too skint to buy it, I read it at the local Chapters). Oakey made it very clear on one point - he hates soft synths with a passion, and prefers hardware synths, particularly the older analogue ones.

Man!!!...After reading this thread about the league I dloaded a few human league 80`s vids.
I had fogotten how much my girl at the time modeled herself after the blonde in human league!!!
Wow...watching those vids really took me out!
My girlfriend at that time was really hot looking...but one reason I broke off with her was `cause I hated that real slick ,trendy, look that was cool at that time.
I think I had a flashback!haaaaa
