Being helpful is good. Providing background info is good to, just not if it's made up. ;) :hihi:
So I made it up did I?

Here is a direct quote from page 83 of the LuSH-101 manual:

"Due to the fact that the number of sound parameters in LuSH-101 synthesizer is counted in thousands, and the parameters automation assured by the host application accordingly with VST/AU technologies allows to use max. 128 automatable parameters, we can map/assign the chosen internal parameters of the synthesizer on 128 automatable (from the host level) general usage parameters in the Parameters tab."

So I suppose D16 are making things up too...

I'm not sure about other DAWs but, with Reaper, when you've got a plugin with lots of parameters you can end up with an incredibly long and unwieldy list. If the plugin also has some pretty cryptic labeling for these parameters it can be really annoying trying to find the right one to automate. This method of predefining your own list and saving it as the default actually works a lot better in the long run (at least with Reaper).

SO I'm not getting any stepping when the filter is modulated by modwheel

Start with then init patch (or Use a simple oscillator, no sub, no FX, as dry as possible), push Resonance to max (so its a beep), assign modwheel to Cutoff and *slowly* move modwheel from low to high, its stepping here. :?

Well first of all, it was meant pretty light-hearted (as shown by the laughing/teasing emoticon).

Secondly, the D-16 manual is misleading at best. I don't know if more than 128 parameters can be automated at once, but I know for a fact that most hosts can see more than 128 at once to chose from and VSTs can certainly expose more than 128. You can test this easily in hosts like Logic, Reaper and many others with most synth plug-ins. Yes most synth plug-ins have more than 128 automatable parameters. Load anything, zebra, fm8, poly-ana, electraX, Albino, Blue, etc. and go to select a parameter in the automation lane. Voila, much more than 128.

You could also test this with Ableton if you were so inclined. Load a big synth and configure 128 parameters. Close and re-open, now configure parameters that weren't in that first 128. See, there are more. Abletons limitation only. Before Live 7 (I think, maybe 8), when you couldn't configure parameters it was a huge issue because it could only see the first 128, so in Live there were actually parameters of many plug-ins that you just couldn't automate. Wasn't an issue in most other DAWs though.

wonderful quality! Wow... DIVA wow!

It is damn expensive though... shit.

Now, I am regretting my Komplete purchase, cause this looks like a FUN synth to learn!

Never tried to automate in Reaper cause I have only used it for cutting up radio interviews... Didn't realize Reaper sucked that way for automation...

In Live having to predefine your own list is an entirely superfluous task cause you just grab whatever parameter you want and adjust it while recording and the automation is recorded... or put it into configuration mode and move the parameters that you want to tweak by hand... you never have to do any selection by big lists...

Having to make parameter definitions one by one via dropdown menus in Lush seems really antiquated to me and not a modern solution at all. But hey, that is how it is... if someone likes the synth enough they will put up with it. It blunted my enthusiasm some as I am spoiled cause I don't even have to give it a thought it all my other synths...

Well... the sound is excellent...

I agree. Although given how many parameters there are with all these layers, I can understand their thinking so as to make it easier in some hosts, even though I don't like it in the hosts that I use. IMO it's another reason against having multiple layers of the same synth engine in one plug-in, it adds too many parameters and causes annoying things like this. Opening multiple instances of a single layer synth is much more organized because each track just has the parameters for the synth that's loaded, it also spreads cpu among cores and lets you use DAW mixer for the different synths without having to do any routing.

This is one of the most diverse and interesting synths that I have ever used. I'm impressed. :D

So I'm sitting here with the Roland SH-101 and LuSH-101 playing exactly the same sound and sequence.

Audio comparisons on the way but it's going to take a little while to sort out.

Prepare to be ... indifferent ;)

Damn being a geek is annoying! :hihi:

Peace,

Well in reaper you can have the last moved parameter show at the top of the list of automatable parameters so it's really not that much of pain imo. The thing I dislike most about reaper's automation is how clunky it is to draw in and edit the actual automation lines/curves, a real PITA compared to other DAWs imo.
