I meant the filter (you can switch between 101 and "something else"). Not sure if it makes things fat or if it brings low end, but it does change the sound a lot.ulozilla wrote:High quality mode in Lush 101, is the low end what fails in lush thoCrackbaby wrote:in what mode?ulozilla wrote:i've just compared this to cypher(synthsquad) these are my "fat soft synths" and lush sounds just "thin"

Love this test. Dont hear much difference and I really doubt you'll notice even that 0.001% of difference in busy mix, so...ZenPunkHippy wrote:Here we go. This file compares the basic oscillators: saw, square and square sub-oscillator and mostly focuses on the bass. Towards the end there are some filter sweeps using envelope to cutoff. The 2 sounds at the start are both synths playing together to show that they're in tune. After that we alternate between each synth playing the same pattern. The SH-101 is sequenced via the CV inputs using the Sequentix Cirklon, which is sending the same pattern to Logic via USB MIDI. Parameters and volume matched as closely as possible.
Peace,
Andy.
I am still demoing Lush, would love to buy it, but cpu usage is ridiculous, 80% for a simple chord on a very simple pad sound. I hope they'll optimize it better. This is the only thing which pushes me away from buying it atm.

The sound must make the jorney to end up in the mix and then that tiny difference may matter (ie, the person playing or coming up with the melody and the person who decides that it sound "right")HcDoom wrote: Love this test. Some are pretty close and could have been closer still had the volumes been better matched - the second synth is audibly louder in most of the examples.ZenPunkHippy wrote: http://soundcloud.com/zenpunkhippy/d16- ... -vs-sh-101
The fourth and fifths sets of examples show the most obvious difference in timbre, the second synth (I guess the real 101) being notably grungier.

I was probably downloader #10. But I'm not a gear addict, honest. It's all in the name of researchCrackbaby wrote:Andy, have you tried The Drop yet?
High or full resonance takes away a good amount of the bass with the SH-101.How is it with the real sh-101? Other synths you know? The drop is very pleasant this way as you don't have to fear for your ears and speakers!
I also have an MS-20 filter - the Frostwave Resonator, it's an exactly clone of the original (not sure which revision though, can't find that info online). Even at very high resonance a lot of the bass still comes through. Like The Drop, it's great for emphasising the mid-range growl without losing the low end.
Peace,
Andy.

I normalised the individual parts using a batch processor, but didn't realise until later than the SH-101 was a bit louder.hakey wrote:Some are pretty close and could have been closer still had the volumes been better matched - the second synth is audibly louder in most of the examples.ZenPunkHippy wrote: http://soundcloud.com/zenpunkhippy/d16- ... -vs-sh-101

The original WAV can be downloaded from the Souncloud page if anyone cares enough to listen with adjusted volume.
Some of the modulated sounds could have been closer with more precise tweaking, but it was close enough for my liking. 99% of non-synth people wouldn't notice. Played in a sequence side by side it's very easy to lose track of which is which, it takes a bit of effort to hear the differences. Both sound great. With distortion and other effects, any differences will be reduced again.
Peace,
Andy.

^ I agree ZPH - though I'm not convinced that the lack of grunginess I hear in a couple of the examples was down to parameter mismatch (sounds more like a saturation/amp-clipping type effect), your demo shows D16 have done a pretty good job at emulating the real thing.

Numpty alert!
They are quite similar, so d16 will get a sale I'm happy to say

I take back what I said earlier Lush-101 is not glitching my PC anymore, CPU hit can be above 90% playing chords but still not crippling the sound(no dropouts), I have been in the process of reinstalling my PC, so something may not of been configured properly, so, I apologise to D16!
Still has a high CPU useage though(average between 40 to 50 with 3 note chords), I do however like the sound.
Seems to be pushing the CPU up a bit even when not in use, needs some refinement.
So still demo-ing it...

THere are some cpu issues for sure... it takes a while to let go of the cpu for a voice, so even if you play a non overlapping string of notes with zero release the cpu builds up...

I noticed that, takes a while to go back down, then it never returns to zero CPU, I will take a look when first starting the plugin - see if it's using CPU before touching it with the init preset.pdxindy wrote:breakmixer wrote:

comparing this to Tal Uno LX V2, that plugin is very low in CPU.

Hello,
i dont post here very often, but i just came across with this plugin today
i was very impressed by a video on youtube showing a demo from the filter working at very high frequencies, and i was absolutly amazed by the sound and the ZERO, absolute ZERO number of artifacts when sweeping the filter...
that video made me in 5 minutes to search the plugin and try a demo...
the GUI is very friendly, easy to use, perhaps a little too small, but considering the number of knobs and sliders on the main window, its nice to have so many things at your disposal
the sound of this plugin is indeed TOP KNOCH, the filters sound amazing and the fx are ok, they are not the best i eard, but they are good... i like the chorus and the delay modules, not specialy impressed with the reverb, but its not bad for a integrated one...
the presets are very nice, and with alot of variety, they were well designed and they can indeed show the possibilities and power of this amazing plugin
Lush 101 is definitly one of the plugins i ever eard, and it have something very particular in the sound that i cant really tell, but its something that makes you somethimes think that your not using a plugin, but an integrated software from a machine... because it sound so warm and alive... even if you make a simple sequence, not even using LFO's or modelation, but you can catch slight oscilations on the response wich is something that plugins dont make... wich makes this thing sound like a living machine (i am sure some people known what i mean)
the cpu aspect, well its definitly a concern, and i have very good machine...
specialy because i dont like to bounce audio, i enjoy to work only with midi directly from the plugins...
but the cpu they have to make an effort to improve, optimize, i dont know...
this thing sound amazing, have a great concept of GUI and plugin arquitecture... its not the most expensive plugin, but i would love to use this as workhorse machine, 15/20% would but aceptable, as cpu usage... 35/50% is way too much, i cant aford that... because my music tend to be complex, i dont use 2 or 3 chourd per track, and never less than 80/100 channels...
so i hope they improve it, this is definitly something i want to use...
for now i just will have fun with the demo, and its incredible because even just playing around with this, its very fun... i love to modulate the plugin and play around it, definitly it sound diferent, and its not like the others...
But the cpu thing...
perhaps inserting a "draft" very low mode of usage or perhaps optimize it as multi-threat vst...

I was trying to make a "fake" accent but couldn't find a way to control modulation amount (in the matrix) via automation or midi. Accent is more than just opening up the filter so if you want to change the amount you need to chain several vel->parameters together but i couldn't find a way to do this.
Soon i will have to stop playing with this as the price is too much and im going to get heart broken

Yes, you have to be careful with this when making pads, but I'm really growing to love this thing. Having a d16 decimator/SR-reducer in a synth is really a wonderful thing, loweing the bitrate can really bring some delicate noise to the resonance bump of the filter. That filter's something else, too, when in 101 mode!
Also, it's really easy to make layered and pseudo-sequenced parts like the ones in the presets. The envelopes are perfect for kicks and the different noise and filter types really open up your options for snareoids.
Plus, it's hard to make this thing sound bad.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I guess I'm just lucky, but the GUI is just right for my screen. Just staring at all those sliders quickens the heart rate
