After all these months and hundreds of programmed patches Iris still amazes me:

That's so very very sweet ... you surely have mastered that plugin ......
No word from Izotope yet? No hint of gratitude?

An invitation for betatesting but I never signed the agreement as I already do too much of testing anyway and it's too time consuming.

Wow great deal if you're into those packs. For me they could have just added timestretch capability and MSEG modulation like IL Harmor. That would be worth ten sound packs to me. That synth needs a little something still, especially considering it's priced up with Alchemy.

I am enjoying my Iris license very much, but the program is definitely crying out for some more advanced features.
The first and foremost feature that I think Iris needs is the ability to assign a depth to regions the mask drawn over the spectrogram so that the mask operates as more than just a logical mask. This would enable more natural-sounding transitions between sounds and also more natural simulated filter sweeps. I understand that enabling a drawing capability like this would add a level of technical depth to the program that is very complicated.
Better drawing tools would probably be necessary to implement depth maps, for example the ability to draw and adjust the size of shapes, draw and connect paths, assign gradients or blends to regions, have brushes with different shapes and spreads, etc.
Time stretching was also mentioned, and I agree that it would be nice to be able to do that. I have also mentioned in this thread that I would like to be able to set a point in time where the motion through the spectrogram is held (during the sustain portion of an envelope) at a fixed time like a single cycle waveform.
Various import and export functions would also be useful, such as import and export of images instead of sounds, direct export of wave forms at a fixed note, etc.
I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to suggest a laundry list of other features, but I can think of many others.

Lets hope now that Serato's DJ program* is released (i think?), they can focus on Iris again
*Izotope supplied the effects for it

You're on a roll, so far... and it IS an "about Iris" thread.Gribs wrote:I am enjoying my Iris license very much, but the program is definitely crying out for some more advanced features.

Copying masks between samples or better yet saving them to a library.
I don't know. There's just so much 'missing' from that point of view that I doubt we'll see much added in this version. It does what it does, some like it, some find it lacking. With the huge list they have they won't be able to please enough of those that find it lacking, and the others are happy. I think we'll see a few minor additions and that's it. They certainly can't add much more drawing capability without cluttering things, but we'll see.

No there's no annoncement of any update at the present time.
I've just got the Demo running loaded with patchpool patches bought this morning so I incorparated it into this track, posted here:

Thanks to all who have made interesting comments on this thread I've read through the whole thing and learned a ton!
I think that the tool Iris is more than good enough as is. I think even alot of the suggestion for improvements can be pretty easily implemented by the end user with some devious workarounds either by using third party time strech, using auxiliary instances of Iris that play variation of the same patch for multiple loop end and start points. Or by careful use of host automation or all in combination. Also off loading to another sample for further mangling would certainly be an option.. Mach 5 would be just fine for this..
JRR shop has a pretty good price for Iris at 15% off of 199$ for the plug without sound expansions...
I just might add that some of the suggestions for selecting and copying socalled selection layers adjusting layers size and so on would be nice, but on the otherhand could cause the developers to develop coding white knuckle syndrome too. Just use it now at whats it's best at!

waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

instead of posting such promo videos always, companies should provide more tutorials, sound design examples and more. thats why i bought alchemy and love it.
i demo'ed iris and also padshop, both seem to be great but especially iris is so half baked with so many features crying to be implemented, the program is too expensive for what it is yet, with nice small additions like time stretching, some small adjustments etc. it would be my new favourite toy but i hope another company catches up on this and makes it better!
there is also a FREE PLUGIN! didnt test it yet!
