G-Player LinuxSampler

Post

Hi,

I wonder if there is any differences in terms of sound, between these two players? which one sounds closer to the original Gigastudio?

This is a quote from G-Player site "G-Player was created to emulate the Gigastudio™ sound as close as possible."

Thanks.

Linux Sampler is free while G-Player costs USD149. I guess there must be a reason for that

LinuxSampler doesn't support all the features of Giga v3, notably convolution and articulation files.

That said, I and many other Linux musicians are happy with LinuxSampler. I've got several Sampletekk (and PMI) pianos (amongst many other gigs), as has a friend, and it does the job well enough - although neither of us have used Gigastudio nor can use G-Player so I can't offer you any sort of comparison.

Free does not necessarily mean poor quality

Well...I will be using this only for Garritan Orchestral Strings, Dan Dean Solo Woodwinds, Solo Brass, & Brass Ensemble.

I use LinuxSampler (there's also a frontend called "Fantasia" that's really nice). It opens sf2, sfz and .gig files just fine. Actually, I'd love to find more .gig files to dump into it, because I really like the way it behaves. (Any suggestions welcome! :) )

I have actually downloaded and used LinuxSampler as well....and yes it is a great program, you can load .gig files. However I am still curious about G-Player, specially their web site' statements on how close it sounds to the original Gigastudio sounds.

Will samples sound different among different samplers?

Did anyone notice that LinuxSampler volume level is relatively low compare to other VSTis? I have turned up the volume level al the way, but when playing along with other instruments, the sound is buried.

There are two volumes in LS itself, one on every channel and then a master volume - have you turned both up to full? Mine defaults to -9.1 dB on the master volume when started up.

I've also found I can get more volume by turning up the volume on my controller - that seems to be a third thing affecting the level.

LinuxSampler has gained on G-Player, as it has gone v2
