Does anybody have yet experience of how the music apps designed for larger ipad work practically in the iPad mini...?

- is the UI too small to hit anything with finger?
- is the processor or resolution too low?
- are the connectors the same, can you use same external gadgets? (I guess the Lighting connector becomes a problem)...

guess its hard to find someone who can answer your first question right now ;-)
for me it would be too small.the normal ipad screen has the perfect size for me but still some apps are a bit fiddly.

2:it has the same processor and resolution as an ipad 2.so prformance should be the same.

3: it has the lighting connector, you would need an adapter.Though nobody knows right now if and what will work with an adapter.there are reports about problems....

Yeah, I went from the iPod Touch to the iPad 3 and couldn't believe the difference for these old eyes. No reading glasses required! You young bucks will appreciate this in time.

So no, I have no desire to get the new Mini. I feel kinda put off that my iPad 3 is half as powerful as the new iPad (with the same name?) in such a short amount of time.

But that is Apple for you (along with the Lightning connector). Deal with it or move along I suppose.

How I wish that they would think about the current users more than the dollars.

That's every tech company. Apple usually updates more slowly than most, but is by far the most visible. If you're the type that always wants the newest, (I won't lie I am) ebay instant buy app and Powermax are great trade in or sell options. I want a mini for controllers that use gravity or the gyroscope because the larger iPads are a little chunky to hold with one hand. Obviously I want all of them, and a new iMac. :D

Resolution is the same as far as I can understand from apples intro vid, so it should be able to run iPad apps but just on a smaller screen. As far as I get it, connectivity is the same too. They really want it to be an iPad in every functional sense.

Nothing for me though. New screen is too big to replace my iPad touch as a pocket device and too small to replace my iPad 2. Hard for me to see any fancy advantages at all but YMMV.

That guy is trying to use the camera connection kit with what, an iPhone 5? Since when did that ever work? No one knows how well MIDI and audio interface stuff will work with the new camera connection kit that's based on Lightning, because nothing ships until Nov. 2. Everything until then is simple speculation.

Yeah, I guess I'm not quite sure what the point of that guy's post is. Of course it doesn't work, because it didn't work on the 4 or 4S either. It was never meant to, unfortunately.

But for those of us who don't want/need two devices, the mini might be the perfect compromise. I just sold my iPod Touch to buy the mini.....

If I was was on my first buy, I think I would choose the mini too, but being used to iPad2 I am sure the minor screen would annoy me.

now that it has been out for a while, what are opinions...?

Is it too small for using e.g. FL Studio Mobile, NI Traktor DJ, MIDI controller apps, etc.etc...?

I am just afraid that the controls will become too small so that it is difficult to hit them with a finger without accidentally hitting adjacent control.

I must say I would really prefer ipad mini if it is usable with music apps. It is just much more convenient size for web surfing, I think the normal ipad is too heavy to hold in a hand for a long session.

I mean I primarily would buy it for web surfing but I would really want to keep the option open for composing music or DJing when in move.

I bought the mini. Maybe some things would be better with a little more size, but I have yet to come across anything that makes me lament my choice. Quite the opposite in fact.

That said, not all hands and eyes are made equally. Go try one at an Apple store first if you can.

What about the performance with different apps like Garageband, does mini optimize often etc?

iPad mini = iPad 2, just smaller.

I love the mini. My wifes iPad 2 seems HUGE in comparison. Like TOO HUGE. She has an iPad 2 and the mini has a better screen (higher PPI) than the iPad 2. Its certainly not "retina" quality, but its close enough that it is nice to look at and read with when you arent making Beatz dog.
