if that is confirmed that it WILL, then i don't mind as much waiting
Yes there is...

We aren't going to be updating SampleTank 2 in the meantime, especially when we are in the middle of working on SampleTank 3. It will be able to read legacy SampleTank libraries and we will be bringing an entirely new library with new features that will set it apart from what is currently available.

Believe it or not.

Watch it happen.

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Where are they exactly with development of ST3?

Personally I think ST3 is at the bottom list of their priorities. IKM lost the plot and position in terms of sampler/rompler development. Competition has quickly filled the space/niche setting the bar very very high. Kontakt is the obvious choice for sample libs/sample instrument devs. ST3 will not be able to catch up unless massive amount of efforts and money would be put in its promotion.

It's a shame actually as ST was/is a good piece of software and this poll and a few other threads show that people still like it.

EDIT: as IKM guys say they are in the middle :) they mentioned starting ST3 development about 3 years ago :) so 2013 sound like fast track program to me :)
anyways as much as I like IKM i have to say that they made a massive slip off with ST3

How do you know?

^ bare in mind that ST2 is capable of 16 channels :) so multiply week by factor 16 :hihi:

Plus, the amount of time that it takes to train each monkey to code.

can't see them beating Kontakt and as you rightly say it's a different class product. so to stay in the game based on former customer base ST3 has to:
- 64bit support
- backwards compability with ST3
and this is what IKM confirms and it indicates the direction where it might go...

apart from that they may intorduce cosmetic improvements based on users feedback and countless wish threads (ie larger fonts etc). and save on effors while keeping marketing hype high they might include fxes from their other porducts.

however, whatever they would do at theat point of time they will not be able to match Kontakt or Nexus even if the sound quality and overall experience will be brilliant. seriously i can't see need or space for another bread and butter rompler.

anyway i've forgotten about ST2 as a tool so i'm not that bothered :)

EDIT: i wouldn't be surprised if they would combine it in some way with ipad/pod interaction
