For people in Europe : It's better to buy the upgrade in USD because is it 194 USD (149€) and not 179€.

I have bought the download version of Live 8 with an US adress and than I have changed in the account to an europe Adresse ;)

They always said that Session Automation would take a major rewrite, so I'm guessing that is exactly what they have done ;-)

According to early testers it all runs a lot faster now ...

yes, i know. you're missing my point, by a mile. the upgrades are for upgrading one level of version 8 to a different level of version 8, with a free copy of the version 9 of the level you buy.

but i already have the v8 of the suite, so there's no higher level to get, ergo there's no price for that. and theres no direct version 8 to version 9 pricing.

follow?

and for me, i already paid for suite 8 and M4L separately. In fact because I own M4L and MAX/MSP6, I can already run Max6 in Live. So if my upgrade to v9 of the Suite costs the same as someone who didnt already own M4L, I'd effectively be paying again for something Ive already got.

Given that MAX/MSP 6 cost half of what MAX/MSP5 cost, but I still had to pay to upgrade to 6, that'd feel a lot like being shanked on MAX6 twice.
Hi, to see your live 8 to 9 upgrade price, when logged in to the ableton site got to https://www.ableton.com/en/live/new-in-9/#live_buy

There are two prices 599€ (not logged in) and
249€ (after i logged in)

on the site it states
"These are your best available upgrade offers."

I hope you get a even better price, because you own Max4Live already?
Im logged in. I was logged in before I posted. The only 'upgrade offer' Ive got is to buy another copy of the Live Suite8 at 430EU and get a free upgrade to 9 with that.
I hope i don't hurt your feelings.. Just want to help.
its not directed at you, just a touch of frustration at Ableton. What's wrong with posting proper upgrade prices too?

The automation thing that everyone wanted
Some browser updates
The Glue integrated (pretty cool, I must admit)
Some minor EQ/comp/gate updates
Some updated sounds in the library

Most of the MIDI editing features they are talking about have been there for a while, like note stretching, and double/half timing.

Definitely not an instant upgrade for me. I will have to play around with it when it comes out and see what's what, but overall I am pretty happy with version 8 now that it is 64-bit. $160 feels like a pretty steep price for what feels more like a ".5" update to me, but we'll see.

Push looks pretty cool... Kind of like Ableton/Akai's answer to Maschine. Not really anything I personally would use, but pretty cool looking stuff nonetheless.

edit: however, I can upgrade my standard 8 to Suite 8 for $194, and then get a free upgrade to Suite 9. That actually does sound like a pretty nice deal. Thanks whyterabbit for making aware of that fact. I had missed that.
You missed all the stuff for converting audio to midi- that looks pretty cool....and who knows, the real stuff may be the sound and the tightness...

Nice new stuff.
But...

1. No automatable parameter to switch between pre/post send.
2. No loopable unwarped clips
3. No automatable show/hide for plugins windows
4. No undockable standard live devices

Still a very good live dj tool. Not still a true improvising machine.
:(

I'll update anyway...
If we'd only have a live.track and live.clip objects in max6 i would build my own improvising machine :D
or i'll go back to Usine :D
but i'll miss M4Live :(

Don't look in the shop - to see YOUR price, just go to the "What's New in Live 9" page and scroll to the bottom - if you are logged into the site then it works in a smart way - the price there is PERSONALISED to your registered licenses.

The prices here

https://www.ableton.com/en/live/new-in-9/

and here

https://www.ableton.com/en/shop/

are different :?

(although I am not planning on buy it nor could I buy it anyway...)

The shop is not yet primed for the correct upgrade prices it seems, but the "What's New" page IS - that's the correct offer.

Since session view automation does require such a major rewrite, I really hope they have also added more recording automation modes.

Holy shit, I bought Live 8 Suite like a week ago and the site now says I have Live 9 Suite. I was worried I would get screwed on that one.

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Okay, I see that. If that's what fugazi81 meant, then my apologies for misunderstanding.

So that shows me an upgrade price of 199EU for the Suite or 129EU for Live9. Except for the extra sound content I already have what's 'extra' in the Suite, and Im not that interested in the extra content.

Dont think I fancy paying another 70EU for samples I dont need. So what happens to my 'existing' extra instruments if I 'downgrade' to the 'regular' version, anyone know from previous upgrades (7 to 8, say?) And what happens to my working MAX6 M4L?

Mmmh... I have licenses for Live Suite 8 and M4L, and my Suite 9 upgrade offer is 199 euros (about $259). I think that's somewhat steep.
