Next day- "they are actually pretty lame new features"

Seemed pretty strange response to me............ :-(

Nah, think positive! :-) At least this update wasn't like Garageband's last update....Anyone want to make some ring tones? :P

@ BMoore: By the way, I DO appreciate you informing us about the update. I hope you don't take the things I say as negative. I really do appreciate the heads-up, and this isn't the first time you've tipped us off to new information. :-)

Okay, I took the plunge today and got my hands dirty with BM2.....not too shabby....I still like nanostudio's mixing abilities and effects but they have a cap on sample limits that is hindering.....

I've got all my backing instruments mixed in BM2....adding guitar tomorrow and throw down with a final mix....get results to you later, but very capable app.

First of all I own both NS and BM2, but at this point don't use ether one. I will return to BM2 later....

But, I never understood why so many thought NS was so great. The developer has a very limited vision for the product. It took well over a year just to get iPad support! The developer is a "nice guy" and all, but BM2 has from the beginning been more advanced than NS IMHO....

The reason I don't use ether one anymore is that Maschine plugged into my little Macbook Air is an amazing portable setup.

As a long-time NanoStudio user, I can at least share my opinions as to why I like the app so much. Yes, it does have a good number of limitations, especially compared to the features in the current crop of apps and app updates.

That being said, once you figure out the workarounds and understand the workflow, the app is hugely deep and flexible. Compared to NS, the workflow, arranging, parameter automation and editing on just about every other app I've used just feels clunky to me.

Though the Eden synth may seem a bit limiting initially, it is really flexible and you can use all the synth filters on any sample you bring in, as well as editing the sample (and re-sampling it) within the app. Using samples in the TRG pads additionally allows for live recording. Not for a full length song in one shot, but enough to get a verse or chorus worth of material recorded individually.

Lastly, the app is rock solid. Everything runs silky smooth, even on old devices, and never crashes.

So while it may not be the best at any one thing, the app as a whole, in my opinion, is greater than the sum of it parts. Yes, it's starting to show its age, and I may check out BM2 after this next update, but I've yet to find another app that offers the mix of synths, samples, recording, workflow and stability that NS offers.

The incredibly tacky sounds of NS puts me off every time.

Nice tune, Derek. Thanks for sharing.

BM2 is quite a capable app. Especially in the right hands as Derek shows.

There are a few quirks that get me scratching my head but overall I think it is very usable.

Serious wish list now that I use Beatmaker2 as main music app - audio paste into and save as sample, also some sync timing options when triggering pads on drum sampler. Like ableton. Nearest 1/16 note or real time option for pads. Please, please think about these features. Other than that, this app sat unused as I was using nanostudio, but now I am triggering with a controller and 8 banks on the drum sampler, plus real options on trigger, hold, auto loop, are outstanding for live play. I have 4 synths now plus DM1 that I really want to get the audio saved on some beatmaker2 pads to rip it up live. I love nanostudio's Eden and not super fond of keyboard sampler on Beatmeker2. Could use an easier method of making your own sound banks.

Just minor complaints. Really outstanding app and the new features just keep coming. Really needs that paste into option.

I agree with the paste option...I know there is an option available to paste from iOS to bm2 and bm2 to iOS, but it doesn't always work...only intua pasteboard...can we get general support?
