Go to the personalize window. At the Bottom there is a "Window Color" button/control. Click that.

Disable transpareny,

On that screen there is an "Advanced appearance settings" menu just below the color blocks and slider.

Click that to access all the interface colors. In the menu there you can go through and make it exactly like XP.

On a serious note: Are there any advantage with regard to music production at all with win 8? E.g. I turn off all fancy graphics and services for this and that I never use in win 7 for releasing power for music. I understand it could be cool running touch screen on tablets but how about laptops? Are there any benefits at all for music production upgrading to win 8?

direct features ... probably not. Indirect? too early to tell. But, as I said earlier, it is much leaner than 7 if you can avoid/disable all the "cloud" stuff.

If your sole reason to upgrade is for a DAW, you are most likely wasting your time.

I'll probably update some time in December.

I'm on Win7 Home Premium right now and it's hands down the best and most stable Windows version I have used. But I recently went and bought 24GB ram and there's a limitation in Home Premium that restricts my ram usage to 16GB. Professional version would solve this but there's no sense in paying 180€ for Home Premium -> Professional upgrade when I can get Win8 Pro for 30€.

I personally don't feel compelled to move to Win-8 until there is/are some can not live without apps that use a touch screen, which I could then build a nice angled built-in/mounting surface for.

Something that requires touch for X/Y movement or moving 'modules' around (like that "synth table" thing), not just moving sliders up/down or sideways (for example) as I have dedicated 'controllers' for that.

(note how I cleverly avoided using the term "upgrade") :wink:

Try running Live 8 in admin mode. Not got Sylenth 1 so I cant try it but Administrator mode fixed DIVA.
Noticed plugins now load instantly, in win 7 they took ages especially the Soundtoys ones.

Does Win8 include any compatibility modes, like XP or Win7?

I'm asking because the Upgrade Assistant is saying that my CorelDRAW X3 may not be compatible, though I'm considering upgrading that to X6, too.

I don't think the XP extension exists for W8. You can however run XP in Hyperviser and run Corel in that. It is very minor loss in performance... very minor.

^ Win8 offers compatibility modes incl. XP SP3. but if they work it's a different thing :) - well compatibility troubleshooter asks if the software used to work under XP SP3 - to be specific

what I've found so far that W8 is very sensitive for "run as admin" ie a few softs didn't work until i installed them that way.

another thing is pretty high but constant dpc latency. from what i've read on the net (and it confirms my case) it's around 1000us regardless the setup. ie doesn't matter if it is i7 or C2D it starts from that value. fortunately it does not increase much if running stuff.

W8 looses occasionally connectivity with CD roms :) and guess what ... a keyboard :hihi:

Apart from that/so far nothing major. I kind of like it. Waiting for SP1 though.
