I have certainly heard advertisements for synths as well as reviews that claims that this or that synths "just sits" in the mix. I must say I often feel mystified because according to my experience I always have to post process my synths in a mix: a low cut here, som high shelving there, maybe lower some noisy mid freq's besides from panning, widening, compression and saturation. To me it seems highly unlikely that any synth just sits well in all kinds of material, but even more unlikely that people should be able to tell what synths are digital and analog in a mix if you can not tell the difference when compared alone. A lot of synths can sound interesting in isolation. Place them in an average busy mix, and a lot of this interest might disappear at once, as the "sound" of these instruments. Ymmv.
But some synths require it more.
