so there are a couple of bits of hardware I've been wanting to get lately...

1) A multi-track voice recorder / overdub thingy to record vocal ideas (harmonies etc) on the fly (like the Korg SR-1)

2) Something to control Cubase (like the Steinberg CC121)

It just occured to me that I ought to consider an ipad. I've never owned one and don't have much of a clue tbh, but figured that an ipad might do both of these things (and much more besides)

After a bit of googling I found V-Control and Touch OSC - they both look great for controlling Cubase.

Is there an ipad app for laying down quick ideas in an overdub style? Does the ipad have a built-in mic?

I use Omnisphere a lot so the Omni-TR app would also be really cool.

Anyway, I'd just like to hear from anyone who uses the ipad in their music set-up. Does it integrate well? I know I'm a bit behind the times here, but better late than never! Oh, and if anyone can point me in the direction of some good info for the noob that would also be useful.

Thanks for any help :)

You will find options for iOS multrack daws (and audio recorders). Garageband, with all it offers, is the one that comes to mind first. You can lay down 8 tracks of audio if you want and then do some decent editing (I say that loosely) . With all the apps out there, I think you will find it a great idea starter and time waster, with some decent (but not perfect) integration with existing gear. It's the best option out there in my opinion.

Omni-TR app is a really really good app. I find it is great at having over your keyboard (if you don't have your keyboard in front of your computer), and controller Omnisphere that way. Not having to reach for a keyboard/touchpad off to the side was great for me (as my keyboard faces a wall)..

Get an iPad and enjoy all the possibilities to create music. Omni TR is a great app for controlling Omnisphere and there are some good 'hangouts' for additional info and assistance.

Take a look at these sites and you've got most of the info you need.
