Good for you didn't buy it. Saves time learning it, and even more time auditing all the great work done with it in the short tine since it's release. I think my library consists of about 1500 highquality pathces. It's crazy how much the poor quys have achieved strugglling with a difficult interface. You have to ask yourself with that kind of output can it really be that difficult to "get".goldenanalog wrote:I came very close to buying this-very close-but in the end: no.
It is amazing; it reaks of 'forward-thinking' technology; it's certainly not a 'me too' soft; but it's interface as a synth feels half-cooked to me.
This is just a suggestion, but a practical one:
If you're going to sell something this powerful (and foreign) give it as many tutorials as you possibly can: Understand that every synth is about the user-if a user doesn't 'get it' or it doesn't satisfy his or her wants or needs or fire up his or her imagination, then it isn't going to sell.
Consider the minimoog, and learn from it: Straight-forward, sounds great, easy to 'get'.
I'll eventually buy it more then likely, just not right now.
No we don't need the mini moog again it's a done thng. Can you paint your sound on a Sonogram with a minimoog?
Enjoy what you've got now anyways Iris will be there when you are ready... It' won't look like a Minimoog though.

Yes you stated that you were out in your first post..goldenanalog wrote:So you would argue with a potential buyer about the point that Iris might be better served with a more straight-forward interface?![]()
Oh, well. Not buying; I'm out.
The interface is straight forward for what it is meant to do. Does making it simpler help me who can get it? No it does not.
So where do we go from here. The one who buys like's it the one who doesn't goes somewhere else. it's a big world isn't, scary..

How does one interpret a sonogram? Maybe a video explaining that to potential users might be helpful.
Top to bottom = frequency (highest at top)
Light to dark = volume (bright = loud, dark = quiet)

There are several videos about how to work with iris. Once you begin painting on the sonogram you quickly hear how you are' basically revealling frequencies in your sound file. Bass at the bottom high tones at the top. The dark or more saturated with blue green color the more amplitude the sound has.goldenanalog wrote:OK, basic question:

Also on th iries there is a slider so you can reveal the usaul waveform display of the sound.
I can say I'm not that much of scientist but I had some great things going pretty quickly after an hour or so working.
Iris is like a three track mixer with sub, where you reveal what you want to hear with a paint brush ala erasing a mask in photoshop, but it's playable. It's fun as heck to work with.

Anyone got the Voice bank? I liked the idea of it but the demo's are not very good, but maybe it's just not the best patches?
So far Simon's are by far the best patches for it - Simon you should do some vocal patches, please

Sure, so much still to explore, but actually I already did several vocal patches, just check your subscription folder and you'll find some.aMUSEd wrote:Anyone got the Voice bank? I liked the idea of it but the demo's are not very good, but maybe it's just not the best patches?

you are a di*krider of IRIS and people like me doesnt speak out against it but want it see more improved and with additions, whats wrong with it? dont reply with stupid long posts like you are getting assaulted with nonsense.TwoToneshuzz wrote:There are several videos about how to work with iris. you are a joke and someone could think you are somehow involved in some way or just naiv who doesnt want to read anything than just PRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAISE!
it'S not me alone with whom you argue and people should just ignore you as you prove with all your long stories that you cannot be neutral discussing.
go back ontopic and let people say their opinions, why not make something better? nothing against that at all! especially when more people like me would buy it then, it's very promising and great sounding, it would be right away in my pocket if it would be enhanced with just few more additions like timestretching.
i will still peep on it and hope for a xmas sale for the plugin itsels only, maybe i would buy it without the additions anyway but not for the price now (not the bundle meant now). otherwise i hope alchemy 2 isnt far away or another plugin which has nearly the same features + more.
go ahead and spam me now i will mute you now bro

For pure productivity and fun, Iris is the best money I've ever spent on an audio plugin.
But if you like the drawing sound concept but don't want to buy Iris, check out photosounder.
BTW, there is a great Iris tutorial on Groove3 for anyone who's interested.

First impressions here. It's very resourcefully done. And quite a few patches, both pad like instrument percussive, funny. Scary... Lots of range. But this is just a first impression.. I will be studying it in more depth the next days and report back..aMUSEd wrote:Anyone got the Voice bank?
