One-Synth-Challenge 46: Triple Cheese - Submissions and gossip

KVR time has always been confusing to me. What timezone is it in? I would suggest something like "by 11:59 PM <timezone here>". Don't get me wrong, I know how to check KVR time but it involves too many click to find out .

Ok change of plans! It will be Triple Cheese this month.

A very nice sounding non-VA sounding synth from u-he which was the winner of KVR Developer's challenge 2006.

Cool! Thanks for the last minute change, was able to get Triple Cheese set up no problem. Time to make some music.

And thanks to Urs for creating and releasing it - I like the u-he design approach, I've had fun and gotten some nice sounds with ZebraCM too. I feel guilty now for not having bought any of the commercial products

Err, my last post may have been taken as me assuming I will make something amazing. I meant that Triple Cheese is capable of making amazing and surprising things- people in the contest will do so... not specifically me.

This is one of my favorite free synths.

An idea you guys might want to consider in future contests is to expand the contest to include multiple synths by the same company. Uhe has many free synths.

Might make for some more interesting responses. Or in the case of Uhe limit it to just Zebralette, Tyrell and Triple cheese. All three have certain things they do well.

I would also think you'd have more participation with drums being allowed and or specific drum programs. If only there were decent free accoustic drum programs we could use.

Also think about allowing guitar solos in addition to just having synths and limit FX to just free amp sims and fx as well as bass guitar.

I play those instruments as well and any piece I write for these competitions would be added onto with other instrumentation later on anyway if I am going to produce it how I want to be a more finished piece.

So personally speaking I need to be me and complete the project with lead guitar parts and more traditional rock band instrumentation that I can get others to play when playing the material live and performing out.

Also let us add on organ tones from Organized Trio, Church organ 2 and dirt bag. Or that might be a nice future competition as well.

Is there any rule preventing us from modifying and adding onto pieces we submit to the composition after the contest?

Sorry for getting so wordy I am a rookie at production and I just got Sonar a while back and am interested in starting to actually use it instead of spending time learning how to use it.

I believe it's Pacific time (UTC-8 ), but not sure how it relates to summer time etc.

@myconsumerclub: You can of course do whatever you like to the song as long as it's not changed between submissions close and voting end.

The one-manufacturer-challenge has been suggested before, but that means it's no longer a one-synth-challenge. We did actually experiment and had a NA2SC (any 2 synth challenge) before, but turned out to be not so popular anyway.

I know how tempting it is to use samples or other instruments but that's the urge that needs to be controlled..

sounds cool. perhaps I will start to work on something this weekend and submit a piece. I prefer acoustic sounding drum beats because I'm use to jamming on guitar as my main instrument of choice. Adding in that and bass plus allowing a short guitar solo here and there would make these songs more listenable and to me that would make it worth the expansion of the rules but I can live within the rules to add in guitars and drums later on.

What about an all organ based competition?

Could definitely be considered, there are a few of those around. Biggest priority is to find cross-platform synths PC/Mac, but I see there are some for organ so that's Ok. Problem is that there might be more tempting synths out there but let's keep it in mind.

I had the same problem in Cubase. With the default settings from the setup the dll was in a folder, cubase did not found. I did the setup again and defined C:\programs\steinberg\vst-plugins as folder. Than it worked.
