According to Mirriam-Webster they are:SJ_Digriz wrote:A musician using a DAW might automate a filter sweep
Automating a filter sweep in a DAW does not make you a musician
The two things are not equivalent.
I don't see anything here that mentions filter sweeps, or how much theory you know, or whether you can play one note or more on a piano.Definition of MUSICIAN
: a composer, conductor, or performer of music; especially : instrumentalist
If musician is so absolute a term that it only specifies a certain level of ability, why do we have phrases like "talented musician" and "terrible musician"? Surely these should be removed from the English language.
Help! Where are the grammar police? I want to report a crime in progress!!!

where exactly then is the cutoff point between being a musician and not being a musician?

Thanks for confirming that you have no clue what the word 'cognitive' means and that you don't understand humor.SJ_Digriz wrote:ah, thanks for confirming that you have limited cognitive skills.robojam wrote:Fixed that for you.SJ_Digriz wrote:Then the discussion got elitist and condescending

Carefully read what I wrote. Then read your reply. Then think for 10 minutes. Then do it again. Maybe it will eventually sink in. Kind of like doing scales, only with language.robojam wrote:According to Mirriam-Webster they are:SJ_Digriz wrote:A musician using a DAW might automate a filter sweep

Sorry, I forgot to add patronizing along with elitist and condescending.SJ_Digriz wrote:Carefully read what I wrote. Then read your reply. Then think for 10 minutes. Then do it again. Maybe it will eventually sink in. Kind of like doing scales, only with language.

I provide context, description and basis. You provide insults.robojam wrote:Sorry, I forgot to add patronizing along with elitist and condescending.SJ_Digriz wrote:Carefully read what I wrote. Who is condescending in that context?

Dictionary give the definition as:SJ_Digriz wrote:cognitive in this context = ability to produce and understand languagerobojam wrote: Thanks for confirming that you have no clue what the word 'cognitive' means and that you don't understand humor.
Yet you're completely unable to answer vurt's question or the similar ones that I've asked. It seems that you're not the best qualified to attempt to find lack of cognitive ability in others.based on or capable of being reduced to empirical factual knowledge
How about answering vurt's question? Where is the cutoff? We'd all like to know and neither you or anyone else in your clique has been able to answer that so far.

Condescending is obviously another word you don't understand then as insults do not equal condescending.SJ_Digriz wrote:I provide context, description and basis. You provide insults.
Who is condescending in that context?
And as for the context, description and basis, they're all lacking when it comes to providing an answer to the question about where the cutoff in ability or whatever is when it comes to determining who is a musician and who is not.

I was wondering when that would get asked ... It's an awesome question...vurt wrote: where exactly then is the cutoff point between being a musician and not being a musician?

Well you verified you don't know what cognitive means, and now you've done the same with condescending. You probably misuse and misunderstand decadence as well.robojam wrote: Condescending is obviously another word you don't understand then as insults do not equal condescending.
