OK, now that Win8 and APIs are out we can start a discussion of mobile win8 programs.
First of all, lets elaborate alternatives how many platforms there truely are. Here is my guess list:
- traditional win programs (work in win8/win7/vista?/winXP, on x88/x64)
- win8 metro programs
- winRT metro programs
- winphone8 programs
new, touch friendly platforms there are three.
There was some rumors that win8metro is not suitable for music apps because of high latency. Is this true and if it is does it apply also to winRT metro and winphone8. Now that the APIs are out (at least winphone8) we should know more, shouldn't we...?
Is really the only way to distribute metro/winphone8 programs trough microsoft store or have I understood something not correctly?
One thing I am particularily interested is that which are more suitable for music apps, win8 phones and tablets or android phones / tablets. As all we know already android has been plagued with latency and sluggishness problems.

My two cents...
On the Android v. Win8.. latency. Android OS, (the Java Runtime), makes things tricky for developers. Too much is done on behalf of the developers ( memory management, garbage collection, etc), which often leads to latency. Latency kills music apps. Win8 -- does not have the same restrictions, (nor does iOS) - which makes them better platforms to develop music apps on (generally). So, IMO... Android = FAIL for musical real-time apps. Win8.. has potential.
Win8.. already, some excitement... as Jordan Rudess has ported his MorphWiz from iOS (iPad/iPhone) to Win8. Here is a demo: Clearly, there is going to be other developers following suit. Given the increased screen sizes available (Jordan demos on a 27" Lenovo multi-touch system).

There is a much longer demo vid of Jordan playing here:

Very exciting to see Win8 demos such as this so soon and makes you appreciate the difference between a "toylike" 10" tablet and a full 27" unit like the Lenovo, especially running a full 64bit OS.I feel I could actually do some real work with that amount of screen real estate on a touchscreen.
I have recently installed Win8 on my Asus tablet and it works a treat...smooth as butter on the touch side and zippier than Win7 to boot! My main issues are screensize and glossy screen.
The Jordan Rudess vid that I posted really highlights the unpractical nature of glossy screens. Imagine how hard that screen was to read under all that stage lighting. When are manufacturers going to wise up and give us matte touchscreens?
