Oh, and I get live 9 fo free yo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't beat that with a stick!

push is calling my name too.

Post

I'm glad it's working out for you, hibidy. :)
I'm also pretty stoked for Push. The videos I've seen have inspired me to use my Launchpad in different ways but the new shiney makes it difficult to appreciate what I have.

If it's not already obvious, I enjoy using Ableton Live.

The things that had me off the bandwagon for so long was price (it's set me back quite a bit!) and not being x64. Add a couple of known issues and I was scared off. But yeah, it's really a blast so far.

so.. no free video tutorials?

Most of those really make my point (on my large post on the previous page :hihi:).. these are tips on how to get a particular sound in live and not how to interface with/operate the actual software..

but 3rd link had

and

which answered some of my questions of how Live! works.. thanks! :)

Live! seems verrrry similar to Synapse Audio Orion in this way.. each instrument channel has patterns (clips) and those patterns can be moved over to the playlist (arrangement view)

Live!, however goes further to allow these patterns (clips) to be midi OR audio and they can be triggered at any time, in sync over to the playlist (arrangement view) automatically to form a song.

I can see this is probably a quick way of getting a song out.. or at least the basic sketch.

Made a little demo song already.. kind of neat.

Two things so far I don't like with Live..

1) If a clip is created (track/clip? view), added to the arranger, then edited again (in track/clip? view) it does not appear to be updated automatically on the recorded arrangement view.

2) There does not appear to be a way to break apart all the sections of the software in to separate windows. It is the reason I never used Fast Tracker II back in the stone ages.. I HATE having everything stuffed into one screen. super cluttered. UGH.

If I could break it all into windows it would be excellent.

Otherwise, yeah, it really is a pretty fast way of making music. I enjoy the inline automation in Live!. VERY nice way of working there.

IMO, Synapse Audio could learn a few things by looking at this software's arrangement (playlist) view with respect to automation. If they added that, their Orion product would be much more powerful.

You can't undock anything...unless you use max4live, I read how to do it somewhere but havent tried it myself.

In live 9 you can record automation in session, there is also "crop to clip" function where you select aa time interval of your track in arregement and it converts it to a clip in session.

That's on purpose. There's a method to that madness.

Not everything can be reaper and sonar x1/2 :D

I find most aspects to be fine. One thing, the browser SEEEEEUUUUUUCCCCKS in 8  Apparently, great care has gone into this in 9 :)

For me, the key to transitioning to Live (from Logic) was not to get hung up on Session View. IMHO sticking to Arrangement View and learning everything else first kept things more familiar. Might seem like a waste to use Live and ignore Session View, clip launching, etc., but it's got enough other goodies. That and realizing the Tab key is my best friend.

Where Live excels I think are some of the areas that are often ignored - the rack concept is especially awesome.

1)The method is that you can copy and paste clips altered in Arrangement View, back into Session view. I used to wish it would auto-update, but now I really don't move to Arrangement View, until it's closer to being final.

Keep in mind, I basically started with Live (originally with Sony Acid, then a quick headache of a transition to Live). Since then, I now work with Reaper, ProTools and Logic, but nothing (to me) replaces Session view.

2) Yeah, this part is frustrating for me too... I would absolutely love to see a multi-window version of Live. Mixer in one, and then either Session or Arrangement view in the other would be lovely!

@hibidy - The browser has sucked for many versions (6,7 and 8 to my knowledge). 9 is much better (IMO), but I'm still getting acquainted with L9, so I don't want to rush to either a favorable or negative opinion just yet!

Building racks is definitely a place Live excels. It doesn't require a major learning curve here either, but mostly just a willingness to commit on which parameter you want mapped out, as well as choosing the levels it should be mapped as.

I'd have 2 screens. One with half VSTi gui and other half MIDI sequencer/editor.. and the other session view.

When clicking on a clip in session view on one screen, it would load on the other screen showing the top GUI and bottom sequencer/editor. That would be boss. :tu:
