I have ReelBus on the master of my default template, it adds a bit of movement/pumping that I really like... it suits the music I'm making right now...

I don't know if the other alternatives perform better... I was looking for a cheap tape emulator, so I decided to try some of them starting from the cheapest. I found that ReelBus did exactly the effect that I wanted, so I didn't try anything else...

I think it's just a matter of personal taste...

ReelBus holds up very, very well to expensive plugins of the same type, costing upwards of $200. Different tonal flavors are certainly a matter of taste, but nevertheless, quality is quality. TB ReelBus is a very nice quality plugin.

For me, TB ReelBus was one of those plugins that I liked more and more as time passed by.
The only real "problem" would be it's CPU strain that is a bit high.

Hmm I'll have a go with this and compare it to my other saturation plugins.

Fxpansion Maul, Fabfilter Saturn, Waves Kramer Master Tape,

*EDIT* For some reason I can't seem to finish downloading the OSX demos from the site. It seems to pause around 19mb or something. Anyone else getting this?

In the same way for the life i can understand why do people like old things, old songs, old equipment etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.

Different people, different tastes, need, wish, project idea etc.etc.etc.

But i can't understand why is it so hard for some people to accept that someone is needing something they don't

I can't understand why it's so hard for some people to accept that times have moved on......God we couldn't wait until digital technology advanced far enough so we could get rid of those damn tape machines.....so I can't see any "need" for them at all......

Oh and I own several of the older JB plugins..nothing against them/him at all......I just don't see the need or desire to emulate Wow and Flutter....

Next we'll have a 60hz ground hum plugin to emulate the noise in Danny's basement from all the amps........

It's simple: music from the 50s and 60s sounded better, for some even the music from the 70s was good. The fault cannot possibly be with us, so it must be the equipment. Can't buy it anymore, so any plugin that emulates expensive 60s gear must be good.

On the other hand, I recently played a vinyl LP, and by Jove, does it sound different from a CD. Not better, actually in some respects worse, but different. The LP sounded pretty warm, and that's what people like. Since you can't get warmth by a bit of EQ'ing, people are turning to that kind of equipment.

I also get the feeling that analogue recording hides a lot of problems that are plainly audible with modern digital technology; perhaps it was just masked by the noise level and the weakish frequency response in the high regions. At the same time, the equipment was of high quality, the recording engineers back then weren't crazy of course.

Everyone's hoping to sprinkle a bit of magic on their products. If you're going to try it, better get TB ReelBus than one of those Slate or Waves products: it's a lot cheaper.

When I was younger I remember some heated debates with my father about what sounded better between a vinyl and a CD. I was showing him the specs and why it was impossible for vinyls to sound better. That was in the middle, late 80's.

I've found some old Rap Traxx cassettes in my closet recently and listen to them. I think I like that noise, wow and flutter. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I think I just don't like thing when they sound too pure. Of course that depend on the type of sound/song/music, but for some things I really prefer that imperfection. Now I understand what my father was saying.

About tape emulation, it's nice to have the option to choose and really fine-tune the sound we want.

TB ReelBus - thoughts?
