I had to record 8 tracks of vocals to iPad last night on an emergency basis. It worked perfectly and enjoyably. Usually in tense situations new tech fails spectacularly in Murphy's-law type fashion. Not this time. With a couple more features I could have mixed right there on the spot.

I do love how recording vocals into the iPad opens up some possibilities for where, and how, you record. My DAW is set up in a noisy basement (cpu fans, air vents, floors creaking above me, etc). With the iPad setup, I can import what I'm singing to, record vocals on the iPad in a quiet and acoustically pleasing place, then pull them back into the DAW for mixdown.
It's a great thing.

I got a laptop back in 2004. Totally silent too. No fan. Can record as many tracks as you can feed it(especially with an SSD drive).. hundreds maybe? Touch controlled. Expandable. Excellent hardware support. Hundreds of thousands of compatible devices. Millions(or trillions?) of apps. Plays games too. Built in Wifi. Supports Flash. Light and easy to carry around everywhere.
So WTF are you raving about?

You might have it read it again to discern. Or perhaps you're just not capable of being delighted by anything anymore?mkdr wrote:I got a laptop back in 2004. Totally silent too. No fan. No really, more details on the audio interface (if any) would be great.
Like were those 8 tracks recorded in sequence or at the same time?

I was looking for a touchscreen laptop back then, but wasn't able to find anything that I liked. What did you get?mkdr wrote:I got a laptop back in 2004. Totally silent too. No fan. Can record as many tracks as you can feed it(especially with an SSD drive).. hundreds maybe? Touch controlled.

Every laptop had a "touch-interface" then and still do. Not a touch screen though..
Oh, and you had tablet computers then too, with touchscreens. You must have lived under a rock back then..

Using your obtuse definition, everything that exists in the world has a touch interface.mkdr wrote:Every laptop had a "touch-interface" then and still do. Not a touch screen though..

You quoted my post, but apparently, you didn't understand it. You'll find I said I couldn't find any touch screen laptops that I liked. I didn't say that I couldn't find any touch screen laptops.

I plugged my mackie mixer direct into the iPad headphone/line in. Recorded 8 vocal tracks into GarageBand, then later uploaded to GarageBand on Mac, then opened in Logic 9.hogo wrote: very nice! what did you use to record?
