i got iris too now
, here is my first test with some sounds mangled and small ambient cue. especially with rhythmed elements i miss the time stretch option, or any guess how to make them comparable each other?

Read the manual regarding " radius rt" . I think this is what you're after.Caine123 wrote:i got iris too now, here is my first test with some sounds mangled and small ambient cue. especially with rhythmed elements i miss the time stretch option, or any guess how to make them comparable each other?

It's surgical "precision" would "speed workflow" if/when one knows what they are looking for in selecting very specific details of a sound, and then moving on.Pixelwarrior wrote:Ok, thanks. Looks like the plugin speeds up workflow and allows for a more surgical treatment of the sound.
If one is using Iris to further manipulate those 'details' however, "speed" and "workflow" may be conflicting terms, save that you ARE able to work with 'layering/blending' 3 samples/sounds at once (not counting the 'sub') not unlike using a 3-channel 'mixer' with one interface. As to "time spent" > ergo:
Indeed.Sampleconstruct wrote:I can only say that some of the patches take several hours to make, surgical selection is indeed what I often go for, but that takes time.
Though I'm inclined to simply say both, this would depend entirely on the "material" being processed, and how one goes about doing so, no? e.g. I generally use my own "samples" which requires "gathering and preparing", however, though I didn't have the +5 pack originally, I got it after reading that some people were impressed, and others, less than impressed with the stock presets.TwoToneshuzz wrote:Then is it several hours at the selection stage that is the time consuming part or is it the gathering and preparation of the sample material phase?
So, I'm loading them without the pre-made "selections", and making my own selections/presets using the RAW sounds, hence no "time" in preparation. I'll A/B them later, to see if there is anything worth offering to the masses who own those samples.
Conversely, I've been "field recording", sampling, and manipulating 'audio' since the 50's (that's the 1950's). In addition to several thousand gigs of digital samples, I have boxes of reel-2-reel, cassette, floppies, 'zip/jaz-disks', and DAT recordings coming out the wazoo, and these would take an unimaginable number of MONTHS to sort and select and 'prepare'.
Frankly, I doubt I will ever feel compelled to do it, beyond what I already have done, as it distracts/detracts from playing with all my cool toys, which not surprisingly are predominately "samplers"...
Having and achieving an "overall vision" (objective) within a "reasonable amount of time", can prove "challenging", yes.TwoToneshuzz wrote:I think the most challenging aspect of sound design is just to have a overall vision of where you want to get to, and achieve this within a reasonable time frame.
Given the context of (to many users) a "new tool-set" methodology, I would modify that statement, thus:
The "most challenging aspect" of delving into unfamiliar territory, is to allow yourself to NOT have a predefined (limited) "vision" of what is achievable relative to 'past' experience/expertise, and to simply experience the 'JOY' of dis-covering something "new", by letting go of "time" as a self-constraining "productivity" measurement (hurdle), and not confusing 'it' with "creativity" and/or the potential "rewards" of the experience.
Allow the "challenge" to inspire you to forget what you think you 'know'.

I love Iris as it is so unique. The subscription series from Simon is great and I think it has made a difference for me. Here are a couple of tracks I have done with Iris (and some other synths):

I wasn't speaking generally. I was putting Iris in relation to the method I mentioned (Ableton's sampler & automated EQ).Shabdahbriah wrote:It's surgical "precision" would "speed workflow" if/when one knows what they are looking for in selecting very specific details of a sound, and then moving on.

I think that is the way I have always worked since I started in the late sixties with electronic music. I disavow genres and strive for the unique regardless of where it takes me. Very liberating.Shabdahbriah wrote:

I found something to do with Simons Iris Patches even though I had mentioned half joking that I felt there wasn't anything for me to do but sit back and enjoy the ride about his last subscription patches as they seemed so complete and beautiful in themselves.
I used the Sound Far Away and from another series Evo Bells version 2
Plus one Kalimba sound from the Percussion category of the Iris basic Library. and one other mystery sound from the Patchpool that I've lost the connection to..
No extra effects, some pitch bend. Compression on the Master Buss.

Hope you find a lot of use for your new tools.
Rythmic elements can be pitch shifted so they maintain their tming using RT modus.
Nice work on your track. Pretty refined already..

Getting a overview of the Toys bank. It's actually not that much about comic sounds for cartoons. Sure there's a few things, but alot are quite serious in tone, so the title Toys is mostly a reference to the source of the sample materiel. What they have gotten out of it is quite good usable interesting and fun to explore..
2 main sounds; Unicorn tears, first piano
pad; Dream State
Percussion; Twerk Shoes, Invaders, NacchtRicht, Larynx.
Plus two others from Toys.
No extra effects applied
Sequenced in Numerology Pro 3, pad Dream State played live.

I've been doing my best to ruin Simons beautiful work on the patchpool Iris subscription sounds.
Here I use Beauty Cloud, Stochastic Lady, and a couple others. Plus Criminal Keys from the Iris Standard library played live in expressionistic style then mangled with a lfo routed to pitch 50 cent upwards, the recorded Criminal file was loaded into Numerologies bare bones sampler.
Four sounds are vector mixed using my custom automated vector mixer in Numerology pro. Everything is played no sequencing no effects. Automated pan and mix levels that's it. Compression at the master out.
