Eagerly looking forward to the Editor now! I just hope I'll be able to run it on my Vista 32bit laptop as it's not gonna be replaced anytime soon (it works fine and is offline so why change that?) I use another one for Internet/mail/facebook and all that stuff.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is driving me crazy.
I can't figure out how to turn off the MIDI program change on the Venom. As it is right now it does the channel switching in FL Studio when I change patches on the Venom with the "Value" knob. That means the Venom patch I audition automatically plays on top of whatever vst or hardware synths already assigned to the channel.
My Kurz PC3X has a "program change on/off" option and I suppose the Venom has that too. But the manual and editor gives me no clue whatsoever
This is seriously annoying and I want to get rid of it now so I kindly ask you for your unrivaled expertise in this particular field (OK, that means I suck up to y'all

Hmm. I can't remember seeing that function anywhere on the manual..K-Bee wrote:HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is driving me crazy.

I was also very suprised with Venom's "Local Off" function.. as it turns off the keyboards link to the synth, but not the knobs or buttons! I was hoping to use this as a controller type of thing too.

I'm not gonna use this as a controller though so I haven't looked into the "local off function. It sound wierd though.
Hopefully other Venom user can share some light on this. If not I'm going to M-Audio's forum (I reckon they have one?)

I had a an issue with my Venom, where changing the program on my DS Mopho (another HW synth) also changed the patch on my Venom.. Didn't see any option to turn this off, but i just changed the mophos midi channel which did the trick (always a bad idea to run your stuff on the same channel anyway).mkdr wrote:Hmm. I don't know if this applies to you though.

In Cubase I can set the "Venom Synth In"(or is it out) to the selected midi track of my cubase, I alternatively have set it up as a midi device, which i named and applied the venom synth in(or is it outK-Bee wrote:I'll have a look and get back to you Retrofox
However I've been using my editor standalone/with daw workaround.
use venom synth in, not venom midi in(or is it out
I hope this helps I'm not a midi expert, I just read the manuals and experiment to set my stuff up....
Can't wait for the mkdr editor for this though, glad it's going to be done
PS K-Bee, I had 2 week off and my DAW pc went down - fixed it/reconfigured, then got a new job come in, so still no time for the venom yet

Hmmm, I just use the MIDI OUT option in FL. They say the Venom has DAW integration but I can't see how that works. I connect it the same way as my other hardware synths and there's no difference in what happens.
If am supposed to be able to select it like any typical vst in the DAW, i'm sorry. It doesn't see to be an option unless I'm doing everything wrong. You can't load the editor in a DAW?? If so I don't understand how that works.
As for program change, I haven't been on the Venom since Retrofox replied so I don't know whether it works.
A job is a good thing breakmixer, even if it's not as fun as twisting those knob and see the odd results
But when your PC faulty the fun surely stops there!

my friends gave me a gift card from a well-known retailer that starts with T, so I got myself one of these for 185 € (retoure). I must say I had a lot of fun trying it out. Here is a simple recording with ableton live. Except from some of the drum sounds everything is pure venom. I added some fx that I just bought (NI deep reconstructions).
here you go:

by the way: Usually I'm more into funk/jazzy things, so these are my first steps into an electronic approach...

I'm willing to beta test the venom vsti editor if/when you get to that point. How's the development going?mkdr wrote:All that is about to change when i get this baby finished!Timecop1983 wrote:I have had a Venom for a few months. I didn't like the way of working with the Vyzex editor. Even when i updated to a newer version of the software (editor and firmware) it got a lot of bugs.
The synth itself froze up a lot, especially when turning a few knobs and playing chords right after loading a patch. And saving was really hard. I had to press save on the editor and the synth a lot of times after editting a patch or loading one. Even after a few times of pressing the save button it wouldn't save.![]()
My editor will be using the proper sysex spec without unnecessary bug messages. Which should get rid of all the freezes. Saving of patches will be just two mouse clicks away, or automatic when you save your DAW's project. It's going to be as sweet as the MophoEd for the Dave Smith Instruments Mopho synth

Cool. I'll let you know when i get to that point.mikebenson wrote: I'm willing to beta test the venom vsti editor if/when you get to that point. How's the development going?
The progress has been kinda slow. I've had too many projects and things to do at the moment. Currently I've built the dataset which defines all controls. Nearly all knobs and switches are done too. Binary format conversion is working too. Now i just need to arrange the GUI, check the sysex messaging system(it's a bit different to other synths) and it should be beta testable
I also noticed in the manual that it might be possible to include an editable Arp to every patch. And it includes controllers too! So basicly, if i can hack it up correctly and if it indeed works as i understood, we could have an editable arp per patch which can double as a modulation sequencer. That could be sweet
I'll do a simple editor without the seq hack first though..
Edit: Ok, been hacking this seq thing up. The manual describes a very flexible system of note events and 5 controllers at a range of 2 bars. Max 256 events. The flexibility is that it can be turned into six simultaneous sequencer tracks, and can be made to do envelope type of stuff for controllers or pitch... Wow. Loving this synth more and more
If it works!!
