Have These, but What Else Do I Need?

I now (finally) have semi-decent monitors and will soon have a working interface, but what else do I / might I need?

I'd like a better MIDI keyboard as all I have right now is a 37-key KORG microKey, but that aside, I don't know what else I'd need.

As for software, I'm perfectly satisfied with what I have other than mastering effects, but I'm not sure I have the ears to master, anyway.

What sorts of rack effects, processors, and other hardware should I think about?

I'll only need one or two microphones, depending on if Mark and I do a podcast, but that's just an idea.

How do you go about treating a room? This is a pretty small room, and I'll be mixing in a corner (can't avoid it).

I have tons of questions, but I'll stop there.

Oh, and I have KRK KNS-8400 headphones, and I'm pretty happy with them. Is there another type I should be interested in? Why?

Do you have a "mixer"? You'll need one for any more outboard ("hardware") gear, unless your soundcard has multiple in/outs.

As far as cans, you CANNOT beat what you have imho. I've had ALL the popular cans. These are terrific.

You're in a good situation (other than the RMA for the soundcard). Good stuff!

fwiw........I have the very average oxygen 61 for midi controller. I find midi controllers to be "frustrating" in that it's really hard to get bang for buck. What I have I've had for years. I like the 61 keys...........ymmv.

I use Cubase 6.5 as my host, and my interface is a TASCAM US-1800 with 16 inputs and four outputs. Eight of those inputs are mic inputs with +48v selectable.

I don't really think I need a mixer right now. Maybe far down the road, unless there are outboard effects or processors that I feel I need.

Yeah, I'm really happy with my cans. I don't have anything to compare them to, but they seem to do the job for me.

Now, if only I could get rid of my tinnitus so I could hear my mixes more clearly without having to concentrate so hard.

Believe it or not, for the most part, 37 keys has worked quite well with what I'm doing, although 61 or 76 or 88 keys would of course be better. My biggest problem with my keyboard, although I have to admit I kinda like it sometimes, is the size of my keys. They're pretty small, but then again, sometimes I don't like working with full-size keys. Sometimes those are TOO big.
