How do I even truly begin working on a demo? I've got all these vsts and samples and am not sure where to begin.

Anybody want to help me?

Post

why not? it's not like I have music of my own or my band's to work on...

I mean not literally just suggest where to start. I might start by re-formatting my computer and just using omnisphere and trillian and nothing else. Well maschine too.

find a sound or groove you like, although generally it's better if you have something in your head you are shooting for

Can I sing my song first then make the best over it or is that quite impossible to do?

Post

What do you do when you play? Stretch it into song parts, write lyrics, sing them, don't piano-roll a whole song.

I'd usually write that shitty beat and go to the mic and sing over it. but im learning I really need to focus on making a real nice solid beat now.

Listen to the style of music you want to create and try to filter out an idea to start with, like on which part of a bar is the accent of the bassline, stuff like that and try to imitate that.

What genre of music would you like to create?

I always thought I'd be the next Eminem but coming back to reality thats not likely.

However I think I will do something with a very exciting folk/rap mixture.

Joshua James meets Marshall mathers. sorta plus perhaps a bit of yelawolf mixed down in.

1. Sell all your stuff.
2. Find some teachers in RL.
3. Practice, learn, practice, learn.
4. Play with other musicians in RL.
5. Search your soul to see if you have something meaningful to say.
6. Try to express it as honestly as you can.
7. Hone it and polish it until it is really good.
8. Arrange, record, mix, master.

Sounds complicated, but take heart: it should only take about 5-10 years.

Alternatively, you could just throw some loops together. Superstardom will surely follow immediately.

Not sure what kind of music your making but this should apply to most. You need to get a solid beat that grooves before adding synths and guitars etc you can focus on that after you have a beat that can stand on its own with no other instruments and not sound completely boring or stiff. Also make sure to have some sort of variation at the end of every 4 or 8 bars or 12 etc.

When inside of maschine should I be using their drums or sample drums from say prime loops?

I have so many samples and thats where the problem comes into play all those samples are not being used because they are located on my external hdd and are not put into each sub folder cause that would take years to do so.

Anythoughts on how to over come all this crazy ness.

Post

Hey I just re-formatted my computer so anything anybody wants to say now to help me out would be very well appreciated.

Label folders for vsts? Keeping things tighty and clean? How to make sub folders for all kicks snares etc.

Right now I'm just uploading omnisphere and trillian because I dont know how many times people have told me to work with one vst and master it before moving on.

So here I am being serious and taking your words.
