The demo's sounds great. I'll most likely try it out once the next filter type is added.
As they say in Aus, no worries maaaaayt!

I forgot to say in my previous post, just like The Drop is focussing on full band stereo processing as an effect, Diva focusses on being a synth, so it includes things like the distortion caused by the amp section of the synth, and then even includes feedback from the output of the amp to the input of the filter, which is all solved for implicitly (ie without introducing delay) and is the only synth plugin I know of that does this.

I don't know if someone already asked this... but what is the "Cytomic test oscillator"?? is it something to look forward to... ?? :)

It's a band-limited oscillator I use for internal testing. It uses the same band-limiting algorithm I use for the LFO in The Drop, and it will also be used in the future for synths.

As that a hint that we can expect a Cytomic branded synth at some point in the future or am I just jumping to expectant conclusions! :)

And as a point of interest this is the first commercial production that I've used 'The Drop' on (on many of the parts not just the obviously filtered ones)

Metrosonic, If you have followed this thread from the beginning you will notice that Andy has already hinted that he will make a fully featured VST synth based on the new algorithms that are included within 'The Drop'. I own many of the old analog synths(SH-101, Jupiter-8 14-bit, Moog Prodigy etc.) and I have to say that what Andy started with 'The Drop' has somehow twisted the whole perception, upside down, on what I thought computer software has power to do comparing to old hardware synths I've used to working on ... If he was able to blow my mind with this little filter package of his, initial version only with one filter, I can't even imagine what next he has in store for us ... keep in mind that I never bought a software filter in my life, and next week or so, when he adds another model to this genius software creation I will buy it without a doubt ... that kind of thing talks volumes about this developer and it's not strange to me at all that the biggest companies out there, in the software musical business, like Ableton have started to appreciate the enormous talent of this developer and started to include his creations within their own products... He's really bringing the revolution to computer generated music and there is nothing else that I can say about this man ... I can only bow down in awe regarding his brilliance ...

@mbeljan - That's great news, ref a forthcoming Cytomic synth. I've followed Andy's work for a long time now and am currently beta testing Live 9 and can vouch for the quality of the newly improved EQ 8 algorithm that Andy designed - it would be great if he could redesign Ableton's autofilter at some point too! :)

That's actually the first comment I've read from a Live9 beta tester. Any other opinions so far - the first tester seats were taken very quickly.

There's a thread here where people are discussing new feature - https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=186464

I am trialling this as a permanent offer and will only re-consider this if there is some problem with the approach. This way the more products you buy the more towards a 30% discount on all of them you get. It is conceptually clean and easy to understand and I think has been received well thus far.
Cheers,

Sounds good.

Thanks for your kind words! I really can't take all the credit for these algorithms though, there are countless numbers of really smart physicists and mathematicians that have been working on circuit simulators for a long time now coming up with how best to reproduce the action of analog circuits on a computer. I get to cherry pick their hard work. It is still a complex task to translate these in models to a musical context. There are many decisions and approximations, and optimisations to be made to get something that still has the same behaviour and tone, but runs in real time, and the decisions that have to be made all have to be guided by a musical knowledge of what sounds good.

There are plenty of other decisions to make as well such as choice and ranges and mappings of controls, the design and layout to make it easy to understand but still powerful, and loads of other things. For example the LFO in The Drop isn't an analog model as such, apart from being band limited so it has no audible aliasing, but the shapes you get from it are very musical and intuitive to control. This requires knowledge of what sounds good in a musical context, which is a completely different skill to the hard crunch of maths. Although there are plenty of people way better at maths than me, I feel my strength is in having a balance of knowledge in both music and maths.

Hehe. The synth will be down the line a bit, I want to write an EQ and another compressor before that.

Awesome!

Have you ever considered maybe doing a channel strip someday, similar to what URS has?
