Recently I decided to make some music again after a almost a year of absence.
Reinstalled my software and a few plugins.
Unfortunately my Waves GTR Solo 3.5 "v8" needed re-registration. Tried to follow the included instructions to do so but no success.
I then wrote to Waves about it, here's the content of our short exchange:
-------Question/Reply from michel*****@*****.ca at 11/3/2012 11:14:13 AM
I need to re-activate GTR-Solo v8 but none of the instructions seems to work. The Authorizer wont connect to Internet and I do not see the Manual Response Challenge on your site.

Dear Sir,
Please note that GTR Solo V.8 has been discontinued. That means you will have to update to V.9 or upgrade to GTR 3.5.
Please read the info here. (http://www.wavesupport.net/Content.aspx?id=4389)
Thank you.

No !
I do not want to upgrade/update.
I only want to re-install the plugin I already paid for...
How can I do that ?
-------Answer from Waves at 11/12/2012 3:51:18 PM
Dear Sir,
I understand. However since it has been discontinued there is nothing I can do to help you. We simply don't have the installer or the tools to activate a GTR Solo V.8.
Best Regards,
Ron

With the current Waves Online Installer (WOLI) you have the option to install Versions 6, 7, 8 and 9.
If you already know this ... then please ignore me.

Yeah, you can download installers for older versions from their website.
Don't see the big problem.

That is not acceptable. I have just begun to purchase a couple of Waves plugins, the oldest is C6, version 8, from last year. I'm certainly not signing up to pay 'tribute' to waves every year.
Maybe a Waves expert (Waves Universe or someone like that) can comment before we get the wrong idea here and flee. Hopefully some kind of mistake from a noobie Waves rep.

At Waves Universewe don't find the need to work as often with the tech support side of the house (we deal primarily with sales), but my guess is it was a new tech who didn't know you can download and use older versions of Waves products.
In fact you can buy a new product (V9) and have it downgraded to a previous version if you desire (V8, V7, or V6). I do believe they have stopped allowing downloads of V5 or earlier products. However if you still have a V5 already installed, of course you can continue to use it.

I tried the link nicely provided by "chokehold" thinking that maybe I am stupid like he hinted...
I downloaded the GTR3-Solo V8, again, and intalled the thing.
When I started the plugin I got his message as usual:
This trial edition of Waves GTR3-Solo Edition V8 is no longer active.
This trial has expired.
Ok, so I start the Authorizer, I get this message:
The Authorizer did not detect an Internet connection.
Follow instructions to get Manual authorization:
Manual response for challenge
As per the instructions, I am supposed to go to:
http://activate.GTRsolo.com
The link does not exists, I am redirected to:
http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=4074
From there, to register v8, they send you to:
http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=4382
They request you to get a iLok account to receive the challenge response code.
So I opened a Ilok account even though I do not have a iLok USB key...
Then going back to myAccount, there is no link to Ilok or anything besides my product.
That's when I decided to write Waves support, and had the short exchange with them...
So, where is the link to get authorization code again, Mr chokehold ?
Thanks,

I didn't manage to read all of that. Rushing ...
Is this the version of the plugin that was given away for free at one time? If so, that was only supposed to work for a period of one year.

No, it is a plugin I bought, not expensive ~$30, but still, should continue to work...

Could this be your firewall blocking it ?mpoirier wrote: Ok, so I start the Authorizer, I get this message:

Good thinking, but no, the conversation is initiated correctly between the installer and this address:No_Use wrote:Could this be your firewall blocking it ?mpoirier wrote: Ok, so I start the Authorizer, I get this message:

I use Wireshark to examine the network exchange...
My firewall does not block any outgoing transactions.

No more downgrades. I bought a guitar plugin that was ver 9 and I had waves version 8 on windows 32bit a month or so ago. I contacted support for the downgade and here's what they said..."Unfortunately, due to technical issues with Pace we are unable to accommodate any license downgrades. We do not have an estimated time for this issue to be resolved...." The about a week and a half later, I got another email where they said basically, the pace issue isn't going to be fixed period and offered me a refund. Fortunately, I had just gotten a new workstation that runs windows 7 pro 64bit so I had to upgraded all my waves plugins anyway.aldrichgo4 wrote:At Waves Universewe don't find the need to work as often with the tech support side of the house (we deal primarily with sales), but my guess is it was a new tech who didn't know you can download and use older versions of Waves products.
