So apparently it's already available on torrents
Good luck with that :hihi:

And before anybody accuses me of piracy, I searched for "cubase7 xp" and this is what popped up.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

I can't believe there are STILL no curved (bezier) automation envelopes. This has been requested on the forums for years and years now, and even hosts like Live (where they'd seem to be less direly needed) are implementing them now. In fact I have to read that "what's new" -page really carefully to find a single new feature that is likely to be of use to me (MemZap) and even that is pretty trivial. But it seems this update is much more aimed at a mixing rather than composition, so fair enough, I'm sure it will be useful for many. (Although curved automation envelopes would be useful for mixing as well, so that one really should be there by now.)

It seems future for me will have to be Reaper then, although that one still has some elementary omissions (such as the ability to select/edit/move/delete automation points on more than one automation lane). Oh well.

3) how is the routing now with the channels trip? (Cubase 6 it was Insert 1-6 -> Pan/Vol/Send -> Insert 7-8)

And what's scaring me off a bit:
- no mention of VST2 technology
- no mention of new and actual VST3 plugin sorting
- no mention of the old mixing console view
- no mention of hardware integration
- no mention of "unlocked" routing
- no mention of the automation control window
On 2) and about the old mixer view, the way I see it, and based on what some mod said in Cubase forum, each block in the channel strip is loaded separately and is basically just another GUI for plugins they already had in Cubase 6. If you don't load any of those and don't activate any new mixer features, what you get is basically the old mixer.

3) no definite info on this but since in all the screenshots about the new channel window the EQ section is labeled as "EQ position" I would guess you could position it somewhere else in the chain too.

They did mention that C7 is compatible with VST2.4 as well as VST3. Supposedly you also can route any channel anywhere now. I don't see any changes/improvements to automation.

Truly mind-boggling music! - New album out! - And a blog!

@Compyfox

That is Voxengo CurveEQ not GlissEQ. Curve EQ is a different animal altogether.

It looks like the channel strip parts can be freely moved INSIDE THE CHANNEL Strip. But, you can't tell if they still have the 6pre/2post inserts. You are still limited to 8 inserts though.

But, it seems flexible routing, track positioning, VCA, multi-out presets, killing of MDI and 100 other things that should have been done, are still not done.

Heck we have this new fancy mixer and it still won't open/close VST interfaces as you scroll. What's funny is you can watch the Steinberg videos and you can watch them purposefully avoid doing an obvious action that would point out the fact they haven't addressed major things that have been on the list since SX.

f**k bezier curves. They don't do anything functional. The Cubase range edit functions for automation are just as good and actually tell you what the automation will do instead of the lie that the bezier curve is.

When C7 is released, you'll be able to click "Maintainence" in the license control centre and your C6.5 license will be automatically replaced by a C7 license ;)
But when will this be? It's not clear when this is supposed to happen. The grace period is up to December 5th, so I assume that the license should be replaced now. That hasn't yet occurred.
The page isn't clear, but a Steinberg employee says you'll be able to do this on 12/5 to get your license updated to C7.

So I just registered my 6.5. When Cubase 7 comes out, how do I "redeem" my grace period? Does Steinberg mail me a copy? Do I buy it from Steinberg, or am I supposed to get a free copy from a retailer (the only way to get updates in Canada)?
I guess that it will be available to download in your account.
That would be totally logical, but I've never seen a download-only version of Cubase! They always insist on boxed versions. Oh well, I guess we'll see...

EDIT: it clearly says "Download the Cubase (Artist) 7 update and start installing." in the Grace Period info page. Awesome! Thanks, Steiny!

PS: for me, I get near-instantaneous responses from Steinberg Support. I guess it varies from country to country?

The new product looks really great but you can clearly see that they have aquired a bit more sensitivity to the MDI windowing complaints.

All of the C7 graphics on their page have the window title bars cropped out. You never see the title bars or the actual main container window.

Look pretty good though, some of the new features.

Exactly, and notice when they open a VST editor, they don't change tracks,or open more than one. They always close before moving on. They don't actually show group management in the segement about group management. They just show how to create a group ... which is f**king captain obvious. If you have a feature about group management, show the management.

In other words, they know it isn't right.

EDIT: I actually like the inteface/concept of the mixer. So, they went the right direction as far as I'm concerned. But, they screwed up the functionality, which is the Borg way.

Sorry guys, what have they f**ked up? "Group management"? Just trying to understand.

So are you saying they fixed the problem, or they just showed 'sensitivity' by making it LOOK like it's not problem?
