yeah, it's like i said. the fft buffer isn't processed at a fixed rate.. pitch is modulated by changing the rate at which the buffer is read.
at 0 octaves, you have normal cpu performance. 1 octave = 2x cpu, 4 octaves is 16x cpu.
if you're modulating pitch widely with an envelope or lfo like you would say a wavetable oscillator, every time it peaks you could be telling it to perform 512x as much work on one sample easy. the sends are scaled above unity, so you could easily route something to modulate pitch across 20 octaves..
20 octaves is 2^20 = 1,048,576
if you are using a 512 sample buffer, you are chugging that plugin up to computing 2048 frames in one sample.
play low notes.

still working for me

ftr the 'official download' is now the same as the 'try this' file, it shouldn't make a difference unless you get pow domain messages when you adjust envelope curves.

Just tried it, in FLS in Vista x32, on my laptop, it keeps crashing FLS. But, my laptop is acting up, I'll try it on my 7x64 machine, when I get home. Thanks for this, Man, looks great !
Edit: Yup, bad news, crashes FLS on my W7 x64 desktop, I'm afraid
Its worked for a few seconds, but then stopped and I have use the task manager in Windows to shut down FLS.

It is working here in reaper in Win 7 64. I've had crashes when adjusting the buffer as part of the performance, but all other parameters appear to be amenable to adjustment for performance.
Thanks again xoxos

cheers.. i can't remember if i made it a mod dest or not..
i hate to say this.. "the way to think of it is" that it's an instrument that *can* do things.. like you *can* drive a car off a cliff.. be aware that sifft uses a lot of cpu for some functions.

i see it as "possibly useful until something better comes along" - it's 2012, and it would be nice to equip eg. young or expressive people with software technology from the 1960's already.
well, at least people who don't have $249 to make funny noises with.

That's me. One day I might accumulate $249 in dollar bills but i don't think one can make that much funny noises with paper.xoxos wrote: well, at least people who don't have $249 to make funny noises with.

as a fyi note to dc browsers and obvious promotion technique (for what.. what am i promoting here... your articulacy??)
in addition to sifft, check out the free loop modulating sampler i recently released.. you probably ignored the original posts, but perhaps it does a few tricks you won't find unless you spend a lot of $
http://www.xoxos.net/vst/element.zip
comes with light and dark guis

and try sifft. if someone says something about a plugin on kvr, it doesn't mean it's true. even if lots of people say it. you're in the jungle, baby.

I have not tried this plugin yet. All I was saying is that I am one of the poor ones whose main way of making my so-called music is by using free plugins. If my bad humour came across as an insult, well, it wasn't meant to be. Peace?
