I just spoke to a Microsoft Surface Sales Manager and said that the next version of the Surface, due around the beginning of 2013, will run full Windows 8 with i5 processor and capable of installing ANY application we can install on a regular laptop. Mouse, usb, external drive etc.
That means Reaper, Reason, Live etc. as long the minimum resolution is there...
Anyone else has better infos? :help:

Just because you can run current laptop/desktop software on a touch screen doesn't mean you can do so easily or with precision. Might as well stick with a laptop if a mouse and keyboard is needed.

It will still be interesting to see who and what apps will be developed for it though.

I'm very unlikely to say bye to my iPad any time soon.

Wait, why does the iPad need to die? It may sound crazy, but I heard a rumour once that there were two competing products on the market and both were successful. I know, it sounds unbelievable, but I'm pretty sure that it's true cuz a guy on TV said it.

That's what everyone fails to realize. Already had the Lenovo Yoga. I returned it. Very nice laptop, but trying to use Reaper and Studio One in tablet mode with fingers really, really sucks.

If you want Windows, that's fine. Buy a laptop. Once software developers come out with installers that install either a desktop UI and a touchscreen UI (or both, if it's a convertible) using apps designed for a mouse on a touchscreen is going to continue to be a subpar experience.

It'll happen, it'll just take time.

Didn't you know? There can be only one. In order for something to be successful, something else has to die. This is the Internet, after all.

Hard to Ctrl-Alt-Del when the screen hangs though.
So about that Windows 8- how is everyone liking it???

I guess that explains why my EyePad (it's a tablet that straps to your face) hasn't taken off yet.

How's that low latency audio, and MIDI, working out for ya', Windows 8 fans?

If you can't use the fingers you can still use the mouse and so best of both worlds AND if you wait for Reaper or S1 or whatever you dream of to come to an iPad near you....

Portability and Power and additional Mouse and I will not have to wait for a useful application to be written for the most expensive platform on the planet.

Flash movies.... :D

And the best of all = Hell with iTunes! :x :wheee:
