Hi, I want to improve my keyboard skills, I bet there's plenty of good lessons on youtube, sure, I'll look for myself too, but maybe someone already knows of some.

Firstly, I want to skip the theory part, I've been playing guitar for 15 years, I can play keys a little in C, but I'm not flash, so, I suppose I'm after beginner lessons that are more technique more than theory... I suppose.

Cheers!

Take piano lessons in real life. You'll be better off.

You've been playing guitar for awhile now. Do you remember what it was like when you first started playing open chords? How awkward it was to move from chord to chord and maintain a steady rhythm? Eventually but not right away you got used to it.

Learning the piano also requires technique. If you study with a real life teacher they will show you things to make your playing improve faster and be there beside you to correct your technique so you learn better faster.

Let's say you decide that watching videos is the answer. Who is going to help you if you aren't getting it right? Who is going to notice and want you to do it right so you can play as good as you can? Not the video. Who is going to listen to you play to make sure you have mastered each step in the process? Not the video. Who is going to expect you to learn things the right way? Not the video?

When people try to learn from video's they don't have the reinforcement to study the same material over and over again till they get it right. You may watch one video. It may be beyond your current abilities and you get frustrated and learn nothing. Or you may try to follow along with the video and then forget 15 minutes after the video.

The important thing in learning is learning well. Not learning more. That is important no matter what instrument you play. Watching a lot of videos doesn't make you any better and sometimes can make your playing worse.

It's not free, but if you have some money the best lessons I've found bar none are by Willie Myette, if you are interested in Rock, Jazz, Blues, Latin, or Gospel styles. It's not that he's an accomplished musician (which he is) but that he's an excellent teacher and won't talk down to you.

Search for Willie Myette on You Tube for some samples. He has ones targeted to all levels, on both technique and specific songs (as well as theory, which it sounds like you're good with. But even there, he has great material on upper structure voicings, open voicings, and other theory items that may be more piano-specific).

And if you like what you hear, this Tuesday he will announce the largest sales of the year for full site memberships.

I'm neither a beginner nor an expert; I've been playing keys in a classic rock covers band for over two years. I used to take weekly piano lessons. Now I go about once every 3 months, and Willie's lessons fill in the blanks for a fraction of the cost and much, much, much more conveniently.
