i know.. but it's usually not cost effective to to it that way.. if they gave some consideration to people who own Komplete already that'd be very human of them but as it is now updating one or two apps is the same update price for everyone.paulbreeze wrote:You can do this already... Ie. I have komplete 5 which comes with absynth 4 but I needed a 64bit version and so upgraded to absynth 5 (or kontakt 3 to kontakt 4)...dayjob wrote:i'd like to see them implement scalable upgrades...
why pay $119 to update kontakt or battery when for another $100 you could just upgrade to the next version of Komplete? it's just not cost effective.
so, i guess i was wishing that when they announce next version of komplete they say "and if you are using an old version of komplete.. like V4-5-6-7 etc and you only want to update one or two things we offer make your own bundle pricing or a la carte pricing... or if you want all the app updates but don't want the 50GB of sounds there's another price for that"
but i guess i'm asking them to make things confusing to everyone just for my sake

I have been hoping they do this as well. It's getting pretty ridiculous with so much "stuff". SSDs don't hold so much stuff ><dayjob wrote: so, i guess i was wishing that when they announce next version of komplete they say "and if you are using an old version of komplete.. like V4-5-6-7 etc and you only want to update one or two things we offer make your own bundle pricing or a la carte pricing... or if you want all the app updates but don't want the 50GB of sounds there's another price for that"

NI put k8 and ultimate on sale again (until march 26).

Maybe we can hope for a K9 release afterwards ?

Caveat :
This offer applies to the full version of KOMPLETE 8 and KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE only - upgrades, updates and crossgrades are not included in the offer.
An idiot on Set Theory:

I really wish, not gonna happen, but NI makes Komplete into smaller pieces. So now K8 Ultimate is $699. But what am I going to use? Compressors, transient master, session strings pro... and what? I will probably not install any synths from the pack.
If K9U includes Damage then I might be forced to buy. But it does feel awful to buy something knowing that you don't care about 95% of things included in it. But then again, if I didn't have any synths, I would end up using synths from Komplete. I guess I don't like bundling when there aren't many people who would use say, 50% of products in Komplete ultimate. I could be wrong though...
I rather use other companies' products rather than get Komplete to replace everything, I suppose that's what I mean. It could be helpful to just bundle Kontakt, session strings pro, Damage and Evlove, and The Giant maybe. But no, we have to buy everything.
Don't get me wrong, I love NI's products. But as people pointed out, I am not buying any until I see K9.
There are so many things in that lineup that badly needs update that it is impossible to predict what K9 will be.

NI seems to be focusing on their FX roster of late. Driver, the new reverbs, the Softube plugs and the move to separate all of these from the Guitar Rig shell are all brand new innovations. Coupled with the variety of sample-based instruments that have been released this past year, it would seem that there's more than enough to create a new Komplete 9 (and/or 9 Ultimate) package.
But missing are the full version upgrades of any of their flagship software instruments. Usually by this time you'd see version upgrades of at least some of the major players. I'm not particularly plugged into the development threads for NI stuff, but I haven't seen any rumblings for any version updates for the likes of Reaktor, Kontakt, FM8, Absynth, Massive or the Reakor Player synths.
Surely these would have to be introduced prior to any Komplete upgrade to secure a significant segment of their customer base, no?
Cheers

I think Massive, FM8, and Reaktor are OK, but if you look at Absynth, Battery or older piano samples... they are on the way to becoming borderline obsolete. (Or just because I care about them more!)BERFAB wrote:But missing are the full version upgrades of any of their flagship software instruments. So I don't understand (and not happy with) NI focusing on effects... it will just make K9 wider in scope and shallow. I think they will include Abbey vintage drums, Driver and so on... and just call it a day.

Absynth? Borderline obsolete? Cobblers.schnapsglas wrote:I think Massive, FM8, and Reaktor are OK, but if you look at Absynth, Battery or older piano samples... they are on the way to becoming borderline obsolete.

Of course you don't have to, you can get Kontakt 5 for $399 if you wish, but who would want to do that when Komplete is now at $399? If you are into scoring, buying few items would quickly go over price of Komplete Ultimate. Kontakt + SSP + Evolve Mutation, you are already over the price.whyterabbyt wrote:erm, no, you dont.schnapsglas wrote:But no, we have to buy everything.![]()
What I am saying is that NI should not be bundling everything they have in their catalogue. It would be understandable if the pricing scheme made sense; but people are not buying things until K9 comes out because the pricing works best if you have Komplete.

And that's a problem how? Not only do you save on what you want, you get extra stuff if you want to use it. That's seriously an issue for you?schnapsglas wrote:Of course you don't have to, you can get Kontakt 5 for $399 if you wish, but who would want to do that when Komplete is now at $399?whyterabbyt wrote:erm, no, you dont.schnapsglas wrote:But no, we have to buy everything.![]()
Erm, why not? Its clearly working for them. What I am saying is that NI should not be bundling everything they have in their catalogue.
And? NI dont seem to have a problem with it, why would it bother you so much?It would be understandable if the pricing scheme made sense; but people are not buying things until K9 comes out because the pricing works best if you have Komplete.

im with ya on the effects, it kinda makes me yawn to see them spending so much time on effects.schnapsglas wrote:I think Massive, FM8, and Reaktor are OK, but if you look at Absynth, Battery or older piano samples... they are on the way to becoming borderline obsolete. strongly disagree on absynth and battery being borderline obsolete i think both are very good especially if you get them as part of a 400 dollar package.

OK, even though I don't understand the logic that NI not having problem with it implies I shouldn't problem with it, I will quickly explain why such bundling practices are problematic. Certainly you can disagree with these, but you should see where I'm coming from.whyterabbyt wrote:And that's a problem how? 1. Consumer does not have real choice, and therefore products from other developers can get overlooked.
2. Such pricing implies there could be smaller bundles or individual products priced more reasonably.
And I am pounding on point #2 here; why not have smaller bundles? If you think back to something like Komplete 5, it made sense because it was a suite of samples and instruments. But now NI has many lines of products now; certainly if I had Komplete Ultimate, I wouldn't buy any more compressors. And if I wanted to buy their compressor and tube premium plugins, why buy them now when they are $400 already to start with and could be included in the upcoming KU?
If you think I am against NI or something, I'm not. I like those guys. But I do find bundling like this frustrating. I was just saying that 1. I personally don't like buying bundles where 75% of things inside are useless for me and 2. I feel they can make better offers. And what's wrong with that? NI doesn't have a problem with that? I'm fine with that.
EDIT: not to mention that you didn't quote me in full where I say that for me, "It could be helpful to just bundle Kontakt, session strings pro, Damage and Evlove, and The Giant maybe." but it doesn't make sense not to buy komplete ultimate. You made it a general argument where it was just a personal wish.

I knew I would get called out on that so I took extra precautions to say "on the way to becoming borderline obsolete.FiascoAndretti wrote:im with ya on the effects, it kinda makes me yawn to see them spending so much time on effects.schnapsglas wrote:I think Massive, FM8, and Reaktor are OK, but if you look at Absynth, Battery or older piano samples... they are on the way to becoming borderline obsolete. But surely it would be very disappointing if NI doesn't update Absynth or Battery, and I think those two are what people want to see updated among NI's 'core' instruments.
